Trout have a low food conversion rate (FCR), with the ability to gain more body weight than the weight of the food they consume. They’re also high in Omega 3 and low in saturated fat – the perfect addition to the Christmas dinner spread. (1)
We’ve partnered with ChalkStream® who have been supplying freshwater trout from farms on the beautiful River Test and River Itchen in Hampshire since 2015.
Raising trout in this area has been practiced for hundreds of years, while the art of dry fly fishing was perfected here in the 1800s, with the pure chalk stream water giving the trout their unique clean taste. Similarly, ChalkStream® trout are slow grown over two years in fast flowing water, raised in conditions as close to the wild trout of the Test and Itchen.
The farms are land-based which helps protect the local environment. Ensuring that only clean water returns back to the rivers – minimising their impact on the unique chalk stream habitat.
