The Organic Garden

Sarah Mead

Sarah Mead

Our garden gates are fully open! With blossom, bulbs and buns a plenty, we’re looking forward to seeing you all.

Come along, enjoy coffee and cake or a light lunch while you’re here!  We are a friendly bunch and love chatting and swapping experiences and tips with likeminded folk. Keep your eye on this page for news on workshops, tours, and talks.

It’s six and a half acres of Soil Association certified ornamental and edible plants in a seasonal patchwork that we’ve been constantly evolving since we started more than 30 years ago.  There is a strong emphasis on confident planting and quirky fun.

Don’t forget to keep your eyes on our events page for news of upcoming goings on including our September Specials – talks from gardening experts in our meadow yurt, see here for more details

The Garden Cafe

The Garden Cafe

No visit to the garden would be complete without a cup of tea and slice of cake, or even a spot of light lunch. There’s a terrace for sunny days and a wood burner inside for when its more chilly!

We don’t take bookings for the cafe, but we’re open whenever the garden is – on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays throughout the season (please check we’re open before you come).

You can pre-book your garden entry, click here for more details on how to book, or just arrive and pay at the gate.

Events

We put on all sorts of events, workshops and tours. Here’s a taste of what we’ve got coming up:

Explore The Garden

The Avenue

We planted the avenue in 1995; lined with Tea Crabapple trees (or Malus hupehensis, to the uninitiated), it’s at its most beautiful when the blossom is out in May.

What's next?
Meadow

The Meadow

We sowed our perennial meadow over 10 years ago and it’s continued to flourish. After flowering, the meadow is cut and the seeds left to drop so the wild flowers can continue to bloom year after year.

What's next?

The Gravel Garden

From the bees’ paradise of the thyme bank to beautiful herbaceous planting, the gravel garden is a true tapestry of colour. Most of the plants have come from our friends at the organic nursery Caves Folly.

What's next?

The Veggie Garden

On what was once a tennis court sits a mixture of veg and flowers – our ornamental kitchen garden. We grow all our own plants here – even the supports are hazel and willow from the garden. Our seeds come from Tamar Organics.
