Breakfast has long been called the most important meal of the day and whilst this message has probably been oversold, eating a nutritious breakfast can certainly set your mood, energy and focus for the day ahead. When it comes to timing, there are certainly no rules; some people naturally want breakfast first thing, whilst others might prefer something later in the morning. Either way, planning your breakfasts can be a game-changer in ensuring you have something balanced, delicious and ready to go. Is yogurt a healthy breakfast choice? Yogurt is a breakfast staple, being packed with great nutrition from the protein, calcium and B vitamins as well as providing live cultures, for me it makes a daily appearance at the breakfast table. Whilst cereals are a convenient option I am all about getting those little extras in like a dollop of yogurt and a sprinkle of seeds to provide a bit more balance. So, whether I am adding some Yeo Valley Organic Greek Style Natural yogurt to some cereal for more protein or mixing kefir into overnight oats for some gut support I know I am setting myself and my family up for the day. What is a quick breakfast on busy mornings? I am big fan of anything that makes mornings easier. Prepping breakfasts ahead of time is one of the simplest ways to reduce stress and ensure you’re eating well. I find things like overnight oats, breakfast muffins and chia puddings all work well to prep in advance. I particularly love these mango breakfast pots. They are a great balanced option with plenty of fibre to help with slow release of energy to keep you fuelled for the day. Another tip for easy breakfast wins is to have a good stock of frozen fruit, I love utilising frozen fruit to make quick and easy compotes, chia jams or to throw straight onto yogurt bowls. If you have little fruit bats at home like me frozen fruits are also a great money saver. How can breakfast support gut health? Breakfast is a great opportunity to get in foods that will support health whether that be getting in fibre and kefir to support gut health or ensuring you are getting started on your protein goals for the day with Greek Recipe Yogurt. If you are looking to support gut health, then incorporating kefir into your breakfast routine is a simple habit to include. Supporting your gut microbiome (the trillions of microbes that inhabit our large colon) not only helps support the gut and digestion but also wider health, like our immune and mental health. Kefir is made in a similar way to other yogurts but has even more bacterial cultures, a whopping 14 different cultures are in the Yeo Valley Organic Kefir, which means billions of live bacteria in every pot. It is these live bacteria along with their metabolites and all the goodness of milk which helps support the gut and wider health. Kefir has a similar taste to whole milk natural yogurts but with a bit more of tang due to the fermentation activity of all those bacteria. One of my favourite things to do with kefir is to make smoothies and combine it with lots of other gut loving foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. I like to try and get fermented foods into my diet most days and find kefir is an easy and delicious way to do this. Why not try these kefir gut shots which are great for prepping ahead and are also include prebiotic fibre to help feed and support your gut microbes. How can I get more protein at breakfast? Breakfast can sometimes be lacking in protein and yet protein is such an important nutrient that helps give you energy and keeps you feeling fuller for longer. It is also important for muscle health and a range of functions throughout the body. When I am looking to get some protein into breakfast my go to is the Yeo Valley Organic Greek Recipe yogurt, as a strained yogurt it is particularly high in protein. My current favourite breakfast using the Greek recipe is this warm date yogurt bowl, quick to put together and so delicious. Another tip for getting protein in is to add things like nuts and seeds to breakfast or opt for savoury options using other protein rich foods like eggs and beans, like these creamy harissa beans. How can I make breakfast more enjoyable? Weekend breakfasts call for something a little different, with the slower pace and a little more time for something enjoyable. For my family weekend breakfasts often include things like pancakes, breakfast crumble or something savoury. These fluffy lemon and raspberry yogurt pancakes are a real crowd pleaser in my house especially when served with the Yeo Valley Organic raspberry yogurt. I always make sure I make a few extra pancakes to take out and about on a walk or to the park. Weekends are also a good opportunity to try to mix things up at breakfast and try something a little different like this breakfast crumble. A healthier take on crumble with less sugar but just as comforting and delicious, especially on those colder mornings. References: Farag, M. et al (2020). Willow has reached six months, which means it is time to start weaning! Being both mum to three little ones and a nutritionist, I’ve picked up a few tricks along the way, and I am excited to share our weaning journey. We are now two weeks in and have introduced first tastes of single veggies, placing emphasis on greens and those more bitter flavours. Research suggests that early and repeated exposure to a wide variety of veggies can help encourage acceptance of these foods, making them a great place to start. So far, Willow has tried: Broccoli Green Beans Broad Beans Leeks Spinach Courgette. These have been cooked and pureed with a blender and, where possible, served alongside well-cooked and soft finger foods. For example, alongside broccoli purée, Willow has explored a well-cooked broccoli floret, giving her the opportunity to experience different textures and practise self-feeding skills. Is it normal for babies to eat very little when they first start weaning? Absolutely! Like many babies at this stage not much has been eaten, with a significant proportion ending up on the floor! Right now Willow’s learning through touching, squashing, tasting and smelling her food. Every meals is an opportunity to explore something new, and its’s been lovely watching her curiosity grow. One of my top tips from my previous weaning journeys and something I will be prioritising this time round is the value of role modelling i.e. eating together as much as possible as babies learn so much from us. Going forward I am planning on continuing with lots of veggies but trying different combinations and I will swiftly introduce other foods, particularly iron rich foods such as meat and fish but also plant proteins like lentils and beans. This is because after 6 months babies iron stores start to reduce so getting some iron from solids is important. We will also progress from one to two meals a day, I am planning on introducing breakfast as this is what fits in best with our routine, plus being the school holidays we have a little more time in the morning! We will also be introducing dairy foods, starting with some plain yogurt such as the Little Yeos Greek Style Natural Pots. Rather than serving it with fruit straight away, I’ll be paring it will savoury foods first. Some ways I’ll be using yogurt includes: As a dip for homemade vegetable fritters Mixing through a gently spiced curry Serving with a savoury porridge such as butternut squash or carrot porridge. Homemade yogurt flatbreads. As we move beyond first tastes, we’ll introduce allergens starting with egg and peanut. Introducing allergens is an important step with research showing that early and consistent allergen introduction reduces risk of children developing allergies. I will let you know how we get along with this and how I have introduced allergens in my next weaning update. Follow Willow’s weaning journey. Every baby is different and we’re all learning as we go. There will be no doubt be plenty more food on the floor, messy hands and funny faces along the way.

We’ve just returned from another brilliant couple of days at Groundswell Festival 2026, and we’re still buzzing. Every year, Groundswell brings together farmers, researchers, scientists and food businesses to share ideas and explore how we can build a more resilient future for farming. For us, it’s a chance to step away from the day-to-day, catch up with familiar faces, make new connections and learn from the people helping shape the future of agriculture. From inspiring conversations and exciting collaborations to plenty of yogurt, we came away feeling energised about what lies ahead. Here are some of our highlights. Why does Groundswell matter to Yeo Valley? At Yeo Valley, everything starts from the ground up. Healthy soils help grow healthy grass, which helps produce healthy food. That’s why regenerative organic farming is such an important part of our journey and why Groundswell feels like such a natural place for us to be. It gives us the chance to: Listen and learn from farmers, scientists and businesses Share what we’ve learned through our own farming journey Build relationships and explore new collaborations Discuss the challenges facing regenerative organic farming It’s a place where ideas take root, conversations grow and new partnerships can begin. What were the highlights for Yeo Valley? One of our biggest highlights was seeing our Chief Impact & Financial Officer, Fay Cooke, take to the stage as part of the Soil to Supermarket panel. Fay explored the opportunities and challenges facing regenerative organic farming, and why collaboration across the food supply chain is so important if we want to create a resilient future for farmers, businesses and the environment. We also celebrated the official launch of the Centre for Dynamic Soils, an exciting collaboration bringing together farmers, researchers, scientists and food businesses. The Centre focuses on: Farmer-led research focused on real on-farm challenges Collaboration between farmers, scientists and businesses Turning research into practical action to support healthier soils and more resilient farms It was inspiring to see so many people united by a shared goal: helping our soils thrive for generations to come. What was happening at the Yeo Valley Hub? If you were looking for the Yeo Valley team, chances are you found us surrounded by good food, great conversations and plenty of smiling faces. Visitors could enjoy: Fresh milk, kefir, tea and ice-cold Equinox Kombucha Yogurt bowls and ice cream sundaes Homemade soups, sandwiches, brownies and granola bars A welcoming space to sit, share stories and swap ideas Some of our favourite moments weren't on stage at all. They happened over a bowl of yogurt, a cup of tea or a chance encounter with someone equally passionate about the future of farming. How did Yeo Valley celebrate at Groundswell? As the sun began to set on the first day, we hosted the pre- and after-party for Andy Cato's SuperStylin' DJ set. Guests tucked into our beef burgers, enjoyed a well-earned drink and soaked up the atmosphere after a busy day of talks and discussions. There was music, laughter and plenty of familiar faces a lovely reminder that some of the strongest connections are made when everyone gets the chance to slow down and enjoy each other's company. What’s next? Groundswell is about far more than two days in a field. It’s a chance to share ideas, learn from one another and turn conversations into action. We’re heading home with muddy boots, fresh ideas and plenty of inspiration for the year ahead. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the Yeo Valley Hub, shared a story, asked a question or simply came over for a chat. Those conversations are what make Groundswell so special. We can’t wait to see what grows between now and Groundswell 2027.

Why did we bring a Mini Meadow to the city? We headed to London on 21st May with a little slice of organic pasture from our very own Somerset Farm. We wanted to bring a taste of organic goodness to the commuters of Canary Wharf and help bridge the gap between the benefits of being in nature and many people’s lack of access. We’ve done our research and found that 37% of city workers report that they don’t get enough access to green spaces. Our mini meadow offered busy commuters a chance to moo-ve slower, take a breath and reconnect with nature by enjoying a cool glass of our British Organic Whole Milk. In the words of Verity Richardson: “Spring is when everything comes back to life on the farm. Our cows are out grazing on lush, organic pastures, full of natural diversity. We know many people want to eat more seasonally, but it’s not always easy to know where to start. By bringing a little piece of the Yeo Valley Organic founding farm from Somerset to the middle of London, we’re helping people reconnect with where their food comes from and experience just how good milk can taste when it’s produced in harmony with the seasons.” Why should you reconnect with nature? Being out in nature boosts your mood, according to our own research: 26% of people reported noticing an improvement in mood the moment they were in a green space. 65% reported an improvement within 15 minutes. So, take this as your sign to reconnect, whether that’s by heading to your nearest park, allotment, garden or into the countryside. And if you’re interested in getting a glimpse of the action down at Canary Wharf, head over to our socials to see our pop-up mini meadow in action.

What are the different types of yogurts? What is a Stirred yogurt? Many of the yogurts we make are categorised as a ‘stirred yogurt’. This includes our natural yogurt, fruited big pots, Greek-style yogurt, kefir and our Little Yeos range. Making stirred yogurt is a simple process whereby live cultures are added to pasteurised milk. Once added, the cultures set about fermenting the natural lactose sugars present in the milk, producing lactic acid, which lowers the pH and increases the acidity. When the lactic acid level reaches a certain threshold, the proteins turn from liquid to solid, thickening the yogurt. Once thick, the yogurt is simply stirred to give it that delicious creamy consistency before being put into the pot. Stirred yogurt can vary in taste, texture and nutrition depending on the type of milk used, as well as the fat and protein content and the combinations of live cultures. Here’s a little more about the differences between our yogurts. What is Natural Yogurt and how can I use it? Yeo Valley Organic Natural Yogurt is made with organic whole milk. It’s a source of protein and other micronutrients like calcium and B vitamins. Our natural yogurt is great for everyday use, delicious dolloped on breakfasts, but also very versatile for cooking: think baking, marinades and salad dressings. What's in Everyday Fruited? Our everyday fruited big pots and 4-packs are made using organic whole milk, just like our natural yogurt, but are blended with organic fruit. What makes it Greek Style Yogurt? There’s a lot of confusion around Greek yogurts. A yogurt can only be called ‘Greek Yogurt’ if it is made with ingredients from Greece. There are, however, Greek-style yogurts with a similar thick texture that are made elsewhere. Yeo Valley Organic Greek style yogurt is still categorised as a stirred yogurt and is made in a similar way to our whole milk natural, but has a thicker, more luxurious texture due to a higher fat content (9.4g per 100g). It’s also made with a slightly different combination of cultures to give it that unique taste and texture. This is a great product for everyday use as well as cooking, thanks to its slightly higher fat content. What's the difference between Greek style and Elevated Greek Style? Elevated Greek Style is simply our delicious Greek style yogurt blended with some simple, natural ingredients. What is Kefir? Kefir is a type of yogurt that has been around for thousands of years, traditionally made by fermenting milk with kefir grains. At Yeo Valley, we make our kefir using 14 carefully selected bacterial cultures. That means a lot more bacteria in every spoonful compared to most other yogurts, which will typically have 2–3 cultures. The result is a slightly thinner consistency with a bit more of a tang, but still deliciously creamy. Kefir is particularly good for gut health due to the billions of live bacteria and their metabolites that can potentially add to the diversity of the gut microbiome, among other health benefits. What’s more, there is something unique about the dairy matrix that aids the transfer of live bacteria through the harsh conditions of the stomach and gets them to the right place. What is Little Yeos Range and is it suitable for children? In our Little Yeos range, you’ll find our whole milk yogurt and our Greek-style yogurt. Both are made using whole organic milk and are stirred yogurts, but the Greek style is slightly thicker due to the higher fat content and a slightly different combination of cultures. Both are packed with nutrients like calcium, B vitamins and protein, great for growing children. It’s important for children to consume healthy amounts of fat to meet their high energy demands. That’s why whole milk or Greek style yogurts are a great choice. They’re also lovely and thick, which helps little ones learn to self-feed and develop their spoon skills. In our Little Yeos range, there are plenty of options, from natural Greek style (great for early weaning) to our whole milk yogurts blended with fruit. What is Greek Recipe yogurt? Our Greek Recipe yogurt is made by a slightly different process and is what’s known as a strained or high-protein yogurt, as opposed to a stirred yogurt. The milk is cultured in a similar way to our other yogurts, but once this process has happened, the yogurt passes through a very fine membrane at high pressure, a process called ultrafiltration, or ‘straining’. This concentrates the yogurt, removing some of the water, lactose and water-soluble minerals in what is called a permeate. The result is a very thick, high-protein yogurt (9g protein per 100g) that is also lower in natural sugars (lactose). Our Greek Recipe is available in both 5% and 0% fat options. A little more on cultures… Live cultures are a fundamental part of making our yogurt. We use a few different combinations of cultures (bacteria) to achieve different taste and texture qualities across our range. Most of our yogurts have around three different cultures, for example, our whole milk natural contains Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium. Our aim is to achieve a minimum of one billion bacteria per gram of yogurt something our regular testing confirms we consistently do.

Want to know the key differences between different yogurts then this is the place for you!

The Ultimate Yogurt Guide

What are the new Yeo Valley Organic soup flavours? The new soup flavours are based on classic recipes but with a Yeo twist, and there are four new flavours to try. · Broccoli, Pea and Spinach · Tomato, Spinach & Lentil · Sweet Potato, Carrot & Lentil · Cauliflower, Leek & Cheddar Is there protein in soup? Absolutely, soup can be a source of protein, particularly soups containing ingredients like beans, lentils and dairy. Each of the Yeo Valley Organic soups has been developed to provide a source of protein. For example, the lentils in the Tomato, Spinach & Lentil soup and the peas in the Broccoli, Pea & Spinach soup both contribute to the protein content, helping to make these soups more satisfying and balanced. Is soup a complete lunch? Soup can be a complete lunch, the great thing about the Yeo Valley Organic soups is that they are packed with vegetables and provide a source of protein. All the soups contain at least 2 or more of your 5 a day. Each pot is one serving and they can be eaten on their own or enjoyed with a slice of buttered bread or your favourite toppings. Is there fibre in soup? Soup can be an easy and delicious way to increase your fibre intake, particularly when it’s made with plenty of vegetables and pulses. All the Yeo Valley Organic soups are a source of fibre and three of the recipes are high in fibre. The fibre comes naturally from wholesome ingredients such as vegetables and lentils, helping you add more goodness to your day. Why is fibre important? Fibre is important for many reasons, it is important for gut health and feeding your gut microbiome, but research also shows diets high in fibre are linked to good heart and metabolic health. Another great thing about fibre is it slows the release of energy from food, supporting steadier energy levels and helping you feel fuller for longer. How much fibre should we eat? In the UK we are recommended to eat 30g of fibre a day, and many of us fall short of this. A good way to eat more fibre is to include lots of whole foods in your diet such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, wholegrains (like brown bread and brown rice) as well as things like beans and pulses (like lentils). Is fresh-chilled soup better than canned soup? Fresh chilled soups are likely to be less processed as they don’t require so many additives like preservatives, they are also closer to how you would make soup at home. Canned soups however can still be very nutritious and have long shelf life which can be convenient. Why is soup such a great lunch Soup is one of the ultimate lunchtime heroes. Its warming, satisfying and convenient, making it ideal for busy days when you need something nourishing without spending lots of time preparing food. If choosing the right soup with a source of protein and fibre, like these Yeo Valley Organic soups it can make a quick lunch that is balanced and that will keep you fuelled for the afternoon. What are the best ways to enjoy soup? These soups are great just out the pot, but who doesn’t love soup with buttered bread or some crunchy croutons. Or if you are wanting to look for ways to boost your fibre even more why not try adding some crunchy chickpeas or seeds to your soup.

Our Greek-style recipe is new and improved!

Some things are classics for a reason and a good pot of fruity yogurt is right up there. Our fruited yogurts have long been a staple in family fridges, and while they may be looking a little different on the outside, it’s what’s inside that really matters. What’s in our fruited yogurts? Under every lid, you’ll find the same simple, organic recipe you know and love. We make our yogurt using organic whole milk, blended with real fruit and natural flavourings, with nothing artificial in sight. No odd-sounding extras, no unnecessary additions – just honest ingredients, thoughtfully put together. What flavours are available? Our range is full of family favourites: Strawberry, Raspberry, Blackcurrant and Vanilla. And while you’ll recognise most of these much-loved classics, we’re pleased to welcome Vanilla as a delicious new addition to the line-up – smooth, creamy and perfect for those who prefer something a little more mellow. Familiar, fruity flavours that are easy to love, especially for younger, school-age children who need something tasty and satisfying to keep them going throughout the day. Is fruited yogurt a good everyday option? And thanks to that organic whole milk, every spoonful is naturally creamy and nourishing too. It’s the kind of everyday goodness that works for everyone, whether it’s fuelling busy mornings, supporting growing bodies, or simply keeping hunger at bay between meals. How can you use fruited yogurt? These fruits pots are real all-rounders in the kitchen. At breakfast, they’re perfect spooned over cereal or granola, or served simply with fresh fruit. They slip easily into lunchboxes for a mid-day boost, and after school, they’re ready and waiting as a quick, no-fuss snack. Come evening, they’re just as versatile. Serve alongside a warm pudding, add a spoonful to balance something a little richer, or enjoy on their own as a light and comforting dessert. If you’re in the mood to mix things up, there’s plenty you can do with them too. Try swirling into pancake batter for a fruity twist, layering with oats and honey for an easy overnight breakfast, or blending into smoothies with banana and a handful of oats. You can even freeze them into yogurt lollies for a simple, refreshing treat. What’s new? You might also spot that our packs have had a little refresh. With their bold green design and vibrant fruit illustrations, they’re now even easier to find on the shelf, making a cheerful addition to any fridge. Simple, organic ingredients. Real fruit. Nothing artificial. Just a proper pot of yogurt, made for everyday family life.

As a modern pentathlon athlete, my training days can be pretty intense. With swimming, fencing, obstacle course racing, running, shooting (and gym!), I’m often training three to four times a day… so how I fuel from the moment I wake up is really important. So, what does a modern pentathlete actually eat for breakfast? When you've got multiple sessions ahead, breakfast isn't something you can skip or rush. It's the first real opportunity to fuel your body for what can be a long day of output. I always aim for something that's going to give me sustained energy, support recovery, and keep me feeling good across every session. So, what actually makes a good breakfast? One thing I always try to prioritise in the morning is protein. Training across five disciplines places a lot of physical demand on the body, so getting protein in early helps support muscle repair and recovery from previous sessions. Alongside protein, fibre is something I try not to overlook. Fibre helps slow down the release of energy from the food we eat, which means avoiding those sudden spikes and dips in energy. When you’re heading into several training sessions, having steady energy levels can make a big difference in how you feel and perform. Then there’s fuel, which for me means carbohydrates. With swimming, running, fencing, obstacle racing and shooting all requiring energy and concentration, carbohydrates are essential. It's not just about eating... it's about eating in a way that supports performance across the whole day. How do you prepare ahead of busy mornings? On busy training mornings I often go for something quick and easy like overnight oats or a yogurt granola bowl. The products from Yeo Valley Organic fit really well into my everyday breakfast routine. Yeo Valley Organic yogurt, such a Greek Recipe, is a great source of protein and can be easily paired with fibre-rich and carbohydrate-based foods like granola, fruit or seeds. Having something quick, nutritious and reliable makes it much easier to stay consistent with fuelling, even on days when training starts early. How do you support your recovery on the weekends? On weekends, when I have more time on my hands, I often begin the day with a savoury brunch-style toast. I start with wholegrain sourdough toast and spread on Yeo Valley Organic Butter. Then I top it with mashed avocado, scrambled eggs and a sprinkle of Yeo Valley Organic Cheddar. The toast provides the fuel from carbohydrates, the eggs and cheese add plenty of protein, and the bread and avocado bring in fibre and healthy fats. I’ll often add some tomato or spinach on the side for extra colour and nutrients! Why does breakfast really matter? Throughout my modern pentathlon career, I’ve learnt that nutrition is one of the most important foundations for performance. Starting the day with a balanced breakfast is a simple habit, but it’s one that helps set me up for everything that comes next!

Modern pentathlete, Charlie Follett, talks us through prioritising protein, fibre and fuel in her breakfast to support her with her training and recovery.

When footballer star Chloe Kelly came to the valley, we had a chat about the importance of nutrition for her as a professional athlete and why good-quality protein is key. Here is our in-house nutritionist, Dr Alice's, lowdown on protein. What exactly is protein? Protein is one of the three essential macronutrients (alongside carbohydrates and fats). It’s made up of amino acids, the building blocks your body uses to grow, repair, and stay healthy. There are 22 different amino acids, and 9 of them are called essential because we can only get them from food. Foods that contain all 9 are called complete proteins, and dairy is a great example. Animal-based foods like meat, milk, yogurt, and cheese tend to be complete, but plant sources such as beans, lentils, and nuts can be combined to provide balance. As always, variety is key. Why protein matters? For athletes and people who exercise, nutrition and generally eating well is important for: helping with performance reducing risk of injury and illness helping with recovery Protein plays an important role in this, as protein is needed for building and repairing muscles, as well as replacing glycogen stores to help in recovery. However, protein isn't just for athletes; it is important for keeping muscles healthy as we age, as well as a range of other functions, such as making hormones and enzymes as well as appetite regulation. How much protein do I need? When it comes to how much protein we need, whilst there are general guidelines that advise 0.75g per kg of body weight, it really isn’t a one-size-fits-all all and very much depends on a few factors, including levels of activity. However, most of us can meet our requirements through the food we eat, where choosing whole and natural foods is best. Foods that are a source of protein are things like meat, dairy, and eggs, but also plant foods such as beans, lentils, nuts and seeds. Whilst professional athletes will need to take a more measured approach for most of us, including a source of protein with each meal and snack throughout the day will help you meet your protein needs. Dairy is a particularly great source of protein for those who are doing a lot of exercise, I love yogurt as a natural source of protein, particularly the Yeo Valley Greek Recipe being high in protein at 9g per 100g. Chloe’s go to? Chloe loves that the Yeo Valley Organic Greek recipe yogurt is just one ingredient, it is minimally processed, and most importantly, it is a great source of vitamins and minerals such as calcium and B vitamins, in addition to all that protein. And remember, it's not just all about protein; protein is just one macronutrient and although it has been said many times before, eating a well-balanced diet really is key. Why not try Chloe’s favourite Yeo Valley recipes, a delicious way of getting in your protein goals? You can even try Chloe Kelly’s date hack. Dr Alice’s Top Tips for Looking After Your Gut Health This New Year The festive season is always busy, and as we step into 2026, many of us start thinking about how to feel healthier and more energised. One area that’s well worth your attention is gut health. Your gut and the trillions of microbes living in your large intestine don’t just help with digestion. They play a key role in your immune system, metabolism, skin health and even mental wellbeing. I’m not a huge fan of strict New Year’s resolutions, but I do believe in simple, achievable habits that make a long-lasting difference. And the good news is: when it comes to gut health, small changes go a very long way. Below are my top five gut-focused goals for 2026. Choose one, or try all five; consistency is what counts, and your gut will thank you for it. 1. Why are beans so good for gut health? Beans, lentils and chickpeas (collectively known as legumes) are some of the best foods you can eat for a healthy gut microbiome. Why they help: They’re rich in prebiotic fibre, which feeds your beneficial gut microbes. They support stable digestion and long-term gut resilience. They’re incredibly affordable and versatile. Aim for one portion of legumes per day, but if you’re not used to eating them, start with 2–3 portions per week and build up gradually. For recipe inspiration, try dishes like: Creamy harissa beans Roasted chicken with slow-cooked fennel and pancetta beans Bonus: They’re great for the planet Legumes are nitrogen-fixing plants, which naturally enrich soil and boost biodiversity. At Yeo Valley Organic, we plant legumes across our farm for their environmental benefits as well as their nutritional ones. 2. Are fermented foods good for gut health? Yes, and they’re one of the most researched areas of gut-friendly nutrition. Why fermented foods help: Fermented dairy, especially yogurt and kefir, contains live bacteria that contribute to microbial diversity in your gut. They also provide helpful micronutrients and metabolites formed during fermentation. Yogurt is one of the easiest daily fermented foods to include. The Yeo Valley Organic Kefir, with 14 live cultures, offers a reliable dose of beneficial bacteria. Try making one portion of fermented food per day your gut-health habit for 2026. 3. How do nuts support a healthy gut? Nuts are a powerhouse of benefits and particularly helpful for gut health, thanks to their: Fibre Polyphenols (compounds that support healthy microbes) Healthy fats A good target is 30g per day (about a small handful). I recommend choosing mixed nuts to naturally increase nutrient diversity. 4. What’s the link between sleep and your gut? Your gut and brain are deeply interconnected through the gut–brain axis. Research shows: The gut microbiome can influence sleep quality. Poor sleep can negatively impact gut balance, immunity, and overall health. The best gut-friendly sleep tip: Stick to a consistent sleep routine, going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends. For more practical advice, the NHS has excellent sleep guidance you can explore. 5. Can spending time in nature improve gut health? Emerging research suggests that exposure to natural environments may support microbial diversity and immune training. Why nature helps: Rural and outdoor environments contain a wide variety of environmental microbes. Light contact with soil, gardening, walking, and outdoor play may help diversify our microbiome. So whether it’s a family walk, a weekend hike, or simply getting your hands in the garden soil, finding more moments outside could benefit both your mind and your gut. Final Thought Improving gut health doesn’t require an overhaul, just a few simple habits, repeated consistently. Beans, fermented foods, nuts, better sleep, and time in nature are all gentle, achievable changes that make a powerful difference. References: Bean Facts. The Food Foundation. 2025. Top Tips For Looking After Your Gut Health This New Year

1. When do different operations teams begin preparing for the festive period? Much like elves, our Supply Chain and Manufacturing teams start planning for Christmas long before the first New Year’s resolution has even been broken. Every January, we gather the lessons learnt and put a structure in place that covers every consideration for the year ahead. By August, we’re focusing on the finer details, working closely with our customers and suppliers to confirm their festive plans and schedules so we can manage demand. 2. What changes most behind the scenes when Christmas demand increases? Christmas brings the biggest shift in demand we all see, setting the rhythm for our entire year. Fridge space for dairy shrinks as people make room for festive feast favourites. The moment turkeys vanish from supermarket shelves, health-conscious products reclaim their spot, and we see a surge in demand. This is why we plan months in advance to keep shelves brimming with our more indulgent and seasonal favourites, like Double Cream in December, and our more health-conscious products like Kefir and Greek Recipe for the new year.. 3. How do the teams – from Engineering to Packing – keep production lines running smoothly in the face of increased demand? It takes a full team effort to keep the magic alive. Forecasting and planning start early, so we can predict demand and stock build before the holiday season hits. Our dairy supply team work with over 100 organic farmers to ensure that the milk and other raw products keep flowing. Site and Engineering crews work like Santa’s helpers to upgrade equipment and prepare for changing order days and seasonal launches. Warehousing and Logistics handle huge swings in storage needs. By planning early and pulling together, we keep the production lines humming throughout the festive season. 4. If the teams could invent a Yeo Christmas product, what would it be? Christmas Pudding Yogurt, or Yeo Ho Ho Pudding. 5. Which products keep the teams busiest in December Alongside other festive favourites, our Creams take centre stage at this time of year. Their short shelf life means we’re working at full pelt to fulfil demand and guarantee freshness in every spoonful. At the same time, Natural Yogurt sneaks onto the list as customers gear up for their health kick in the new year. It’s a merry mix of indulgence and good intentions, and we make sure we’re ready and waiting when the time comes. 6. What are the biggest challenges you are facing in operations at Christmas? We manage a huge range of products, some of which can only be made on a specific site, by a specific machine. We also want to make sure the team has time to enjoy the festivities with their loved ones, which means taking out around 100 hours of production. On top of all that, we flex to each customer's individual shutdowns and changing order days while juggling high order variances. You can see why we have to start planning in January; it takes meticulous planning and teamwork across all corners of the business. 7. Is there anything surprising that needs to happen in operations so Christmas goes without a hitch? Behind the scenes there’s plenty of planning to make the season sparkle. Our operational processes stay consistent throughout the year, yet we add a sprinkle of extra detail to ensure everything runs smoothly. We also coordinate one of the most important tasks of the year, making sure our teams across Yeo Valley receive their Christmas hampers full of Yeo goodies. It’s a small touch, but it helps everyone enjoy the celebrations. 8. What songs would the different teams add to the Operations Christmas playlist? Silent Warehouse or All I want for Christmas is Yeo.

Join our Operations team and learn how they prepare for Christmas!

Behind the Scenes at Christmas

What makes Little Yeos a good yogurt for children? When it comes to feeding little ones, yogurt is often a trusted staple, widely accepted, easy to serve and loved by children. But not all yogurts are created equal. So, what makes Little Yeos such a good choice for growing children? What is Little Yeos yogurt made from? Little Yeos are made with organic whole milk, which is naturally rich in key nutrients children need as they grow, including: Protein – to support growth and development Calcium – for strong bones and teeth B vitamins – to support energy and overall health Current UK guidelines recommend that children have two portions of dairy a day, and yogurt is an easy, child-friendly way to help meet this recommendation. Is whole milk yogurt better for young children? Yes, whole milk and Greek-style yogurts are particularly suitable for young children. These yogurts are slightly higher in fat than those made with skimmed milk, which is important because: Fat supports brain development, especially in children under two It helps provide energy for rapid growth This makes Little Yeos a great everyday option for growing bodies and busy minds. Why choose organic yogurt for kids? Organic milk is often higher in omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for overall health, including heart health later in life. This is because organic cows spend more time grazing on pasture, with the benefits of healthy soils and diverse plants passed naturally into the milk. Being organic also means that Little Yeos are made without artificial colours or sweeteners, keeping ingredients simple and reassuring for parents. Do Little Yeos contain live cultures? Yes, and this is something I particularly value as a nutritionist. Little Yeos are always made with live cultures, which can help support gut health. When choosing yogurt for children, it’s best to opt for yogurts from the refrigerated section of the supermarket, as longer-life yogurt pouches often don’t contain these beneficial live bacteria. Are Little Yeos low in sugar? When it comes to yogurt for children, natural options are always best. The Little Yeos Greek Style Natural Yogurt Pouches are a great place to start. If your child prefers a bit of flavour, the Little Yeos No Added Sugar range is a brilliant alternative, using real organic fruit to provide gentle sweetness, without added sugars. Why parents choose Little Yeos? There are plenty of reasons Little Yeos stand out: Organic whole milk Live cultures No artificial colours or sweeteners Lower-sugar options Designed with children’s nutritional needs in mind But perhaps the most important reason of all? They get a double thumbs up from my kids, which makes mealtimes that little bit smoother, and that’s a win for everyone.

Hear from Dr Alice (our in house nutritionist) on why Little Yeos yogurt is so good for your kids!

What Makes Little Yeos a Good Yogurt for Children?

Heading out on a winter walk? Here’s what to look for… Fungi are often associated with autumn, when the weather is mild, damp, and perfect for fruiting bodies to appear. But many species continue to grow through winter, offering amazing colour and texture on cold, crisp days. Even though you may not see much above ground, fungi are incredibly active right now. Beneath your feet, huge networks of mycelium are busy breaking down leaves, twigs, and organic matter. This underground system feeds plants, boosts soil health, and keeps entire ecosystems thriving. What Exactly Are Fungi? Fungi aren’t plants or animals; they’re an entirely separate kingdom. The UK is home to around 15,000 species, with thousands more yet to be identified. Fungi are essential for life as we know it. They: Create healthy soil Help plants grow Break down organic matter Support trees and wildflowers Provide food for wildlife (and sometimes, us!) Where Can You Find Fungi in Winter? You can spot winter fungi in: Woodlands Parks and grassy areas Lawns and meadows On tree trunks and dead wood Even in cow dung (yes, really!) At Yeo Valley HQ, fungi thrive across our organic pastures. This year, the team spotted a Giant Puffball emerging from sileage-rich ground, a sign of healthy soil and a thriving habitat. With ongoing restoration work and careful grazing management, fungi diversity is predicted to grow even more in the coming years. Top 5 Fungi to Spot in Winter - Plantlife Perfect for nature lovers. 1. Scarlet Elfcup (Sarcoscypha austriaca) Bright red, cup-shaped fungi that appear in damp woodland. Folklore says woodland elves used them as tiny bath tubs! 2. Jelly Ear (Auricularia auricula) Brown, jelly-like, and shaped just like an ear. You’ll find them on old trees and fallen branches, especially in colder months. 3. Velvet Shank (Flammulina velutipes) A true winter mushroom with bright orange caps. They grow in tight clusters on dead wood and stay vibrant even in frosty weather. 4. Candlesnuff Fungus (Xylaria hypoxylon) Black-and-white, matchstick-shaped fungi that look like snuffed-out candle wicks. A common sight on mossy tree stumps. 5. Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) Colourful, fan-shaped brackets that stack like shelves on dead wood. Historically used as decoration for hats and home displays. FAQs Q: Do fungi grow in winter? A: Yes. While fungi peak in autumn, many species, such as Velvet Shank and Winter Chanterelle, fruit throughout winter. Q: Why are fungi important in winter? A: Their underground mycelium breaks down organic material, enriches soil, and supports trees and plants during their dormant period. Q: Where is the best place to spot winter fungi in the UK? A: Woodlands, parks, dead wood, grassy fields, and organic farmland like Yeo Valley, where healthy soil supports diverse fungi. Q: Are winter fungi safe to forage? A: Some are edible, some are not. Always consult a trained mycologist, many fungi look similar and can be toxic.

Plantlife’s Guide to Winter Fungi

The days are shortening, the light is low. Autumn has settled in comfortably. Back in the hazy days of summer, we (Emma and Sophie, hosts of For What It’s Earth podcast) spent two glorious days at Yeo to record a three part special series for our listeners, exploring soil health, herbal leys, regenerative farming and the dairy industry.   Below you’ll find the story of that visit and the key questions many people ask:  Why is soil so important to farming and climate?  What does regenerative organic dairy actually look like?  How do cows help build healthier ecosystems?  What can we all do to help the planet, even in smaller ways?
Digging deep: the secret life of soil at Yeo Valley  Why soil is so important (and why we sniff it)?  When you visit Yeo Valley’s Holt Farms, don’t be surprised if you’re handed a shovel. That’s what happened when we met Will Mayor, Yeo’s Farm Development Manager. According to Will, a teaspoon of Yeo Valley’s organic soil contains more living organisms than there are humans on this earth. That life, like bacteria, fungi, worms, and microfauna, is what drives nutrient cycling, plant health, carbon storage and water retention.   Healthy soil should:  Store carbon  Improve biodiversity  Increase resilience to drought and flooding  Boosts grass nutrition for cows  Reduces the need for synthetic fertiliser  For Will and the team, that’s why every day starts with soil. ‘Carry a spade wherever you go,’ Will advises, plunging his into the ground, adding - ‘you’ll never know when you’ll need to sniff some!’ And yes, he means that literally. Because at Yeo Valley, soil isn’t just dirt - it’s the beating heart of everything they do. From lush grazing pastures to the iconic, creamy yogurt churning just down the lane, it all begins here. Nature’s nitrogen factory - How organic farms create their own nitrogen, without fertiliser.  Yeo Valley Organic follows an organic, regenerative system that works with nature, not against it. It relies on plants like clover, birds-foot trefoil, and chicory to do the heavy lifting.  So, how does this work?  Clover ‘fixes’ nitrogen from the air into the soil, burying up to 250kg of nitrogen per hectare, if a third of the pasture is clover. Split open a clover root, and you’ll find tiny red nodules - the tiny natural factories where bacteria convert air into a feast for the plant. These are known as ‘herbal leys’. A diverse mix of grasses, legumes and herbs that support soil structure, root health and cow nutrition, creating food that’s better for the people and the planet. Will calls it a ‘systems-based approach’.  Farming the future - How regenerative farming helps in extreme weather In a year of unpredictable weather, this kind of regenerative farming really shows its worth. Where other fields turn dry and cracked like many suffered this past summer, Yeo’s soils have had a higher chance of retaining bounce and moisture, ‘like a chocolate sponge. ’ That sponge-like structure helps water soak in rather than run off, helping to mitigate the impact of both floods and droughts alike. This falls in our favour. Extreme weather events, warmer, wetter winters and hotter, drier summers are all predicted to increase in frequency for the UK.  How do cows help build better soil?  Regenerative dairy cows play a surprising role in soil health.  Their hooves gently trample old grass, creating a natural mulch that feeds worms and locks carbon back into the earth. Every root, every blade of grass, every hoof-print helps build a stronger, more resilient ecosystem.  Will even disclosed that happy cows give their contentment away on their bodies - ’happy lines’, as he calls them - horizontal stripes across the flank of the cow indicating healthy lifestyles, excellent nutrition and low-stress lifestyles. From sun to spoon - how organic farming feeds us Instead of relying on fossil fuels or fertilisers, Yeo Valley Organic uses photosynthesis, root systems, grazing animals and soil biology to turn sunlight into nutrient-rich milk.  This food system is powered by nature - not chemicals. As Will says, ‘as farmers, we have a solution beneath our feet: to take carbon out of the atmosphere and return it to our soil. It’s the backbone of everything we do.’ And maybe, just maybe, that’s the real secret ingredient in every spoonful of Yeo Valley Organic yogurt. Listen to the Full Farm tour episodes. By Holly Tucker MBE I know so many of us care deeply about what we buy and the impact our shopping has on the planet. We also want to be original and imaginative with the gifts and decorations we choose, especially at Christmas. After founding Holly & Co (and before that, Notonthehighstreet in 2006), I’ve seen firsthand that we can be every bit as creative and colourful as we are planet-friendly, with heirloom items and presents made to last. It certainly helps to take inspiration from the UK’s best small businesses… So if you’re looking for Christmas finds that feel joyful and memorable while also being sustainable, here are my top tips: 1. Choose year-round decorations that bring joy long after Christmas From my love of birds and bows to garlands and more, I adore pieces that feel Christmassy but aren’t limited to December. They can be repurposed in creative ways throughout the year. Small Crepe Paper Christmas Bow Tree Decorations (Set Of 5), £28

Eight creative ideas for a sustainable Christmas

As the evenings begin to close in, the jobs on the farm need to be squeezed into a shorter day. Whilst organic farming is sometimes a battle against the weather, it can also be a race against time, and that’s certainly what it feels like in the autumn! Harvesting the Last Cut of Grass We made a fourth cut of grass for silage at the end of October, and now the silage clamps (the cows’ winter larders) are full. Silage is grass that’s “pickled”: cut, preserved, fermented, and compressed until it’s needed. This year, we were working from 8 a.m. until past midnight to bring in the 400 acres of herbal leys before the rain arrived. You have to make the most of every sunny day on the farm! Feeding the Fields Naturally As the temperature drops, grass growth slows down, so all our work over the summer, bringing in winter feed, now starts to pay off. Being organic, we don’t use chemical fertilisers or artificial pesticides anywhere on the farm. Instead, we compost the manure the cows produce. We use this to feed the life in the soil, which helps to enhance the soil's microbiome. The Cows Come Indoors At the end of October, the cows came back into their sheds, not because they were scared of trick-or-treaters, but because the heavy and persistent rain had made the grazing fields too wet. To protect the soil, we’ll keep them indoors now until the grass starts to grow again and ground conditions improve in the spring. This helps preserve the sward and the soil structure beneath it. Both are essential for healthy pastures next year. A Mixed Organic Farm, Working With Nature While everyone knows Yeo Valley Organic for our cows, our other animals and a variety of crops also play a vital role on the farm. Some examples are using our cover crops to protect the soil over the winter, whilst also providing feed for the sheep. Furthermore, the autumn crops are planted, ready to be harvested next year (winter wheat and beans.) Together, they provide natural fertilisers, pest control, and food, helping to keep the whole ecosystem in balance. It’s this mixed farming approach, working alongside nature, that makes the farm more self-sufficient and resilient. Every animal and crop contributes to the health of the land, the food we produce, and the environment we share. It just goes to show, nature always has the answer!

Whether you're wandering around your local park, strolling through the city, or exploring our circular walk along the Yeo Valley Way Trail atop the Mendips, be sure to take in all the sights and sounds this season offers—from falling golden leaves to dramatic mists. These moments can lift your mood and enhance your overall wellbeing. Walking Mindfully Walking lets you connect with nature; you can breathe in the crisp air and notice the falling leaves; it gives you a chance to reset. This is even more important now, as we race towards the end of the year, with earlier nights, the days get shorter, and our lives may be getting busier with the festive season approaching. Science agrees with a 2019 study that revealed that just 20 minutes in nature can lower your stress and boost serotine levels.1 While you enjoy the scenery, you’re also doing yourself a world of good. Physical Benefits As well as all the mental benefits of going on an adventure and walking more, there are, of course, physical benefits as well. It can help with memory and help your brain work better as walking increases blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients to the brain, and it can also stimulate the growth of new brain cells and connections.2 Walking also keeps your bones strong as you age and can reduce the risk of problems like osteoporosis.3 Sleep Soundly After all that walking and being in the fresh air, you’ll also get better sleep. Taking a walk first thing in the morning, when it's finally light, helps to maintain your body’s natural body clock, which is important at this time of year as the days get darker. It has also been found that those who do moderate exercise, like walking, sleep better and for longer.4 Our in-house nutritionist, Dr Alice, says. “As a nutritionist, I am often talking about how diet is just one piece of the puzzle and that other lifestyle measures, such as exercise, are also important when it comes to overall health and well-being. When talking about exercise, people often think they need to hit the gym hard, but simply increasing movement by walking is fantastic and is so beneficial to health.” On top of all that, it is a chance to connect not only with nature and discover new things on your walks, but also to connect with friends and your community. Plus, the very best bit of an autumnal walk is warming up in the pub, such as our pub, The New Inn in Blagdon. If you would like some walking inspiration, check out our Yeover Mendip Walks Book available at our HQ and The New Inn. 1. 1. Get Mulching Mulch, mulch, mulch. Yes, we know that we said this in the spring, but it’s just as important now. It provides insulation to your plants, reduces soil erosion from heavy rain, and improves soil structure. Some mulches, like RocketGro’s Magic Mulch and Strulch, will also keep away hungry slugs and snails. Your plants will thank you! 2. Create Living Soil Create healthy soil over the next few months by expanding or creating no-dig beds. Put down sheets of cardboard, which will smother weeds, and then put layers of compost on top. Worms and microbes will then be at work breaking it down into fertile, living soil so that you can plant your veg and flowers in it. 3. Prep the Greenhouse Insulate the greenhouse walls and roof with bubble wrap (but ensure plants such as winter salads still get enough light by using thinner wrap in their part of the greenhouse). Bubble wrap can also be stored easily throughout the year and reused again and again. You also need to deep-clean the greenhouse to prevent diseases and overwintering pests. 4. Prune Fruit Trees Once your apple and pear trees have shed all their leaves, they will have entered their dormant period, which makes it easier to see their branches. Prune dead, crossed-over, or damaged branches to promote healthy growth and allow light to reach the centre of the tree and surrounding plants, which will help keep the tree healthy. Wait for summer to prune your plum, cherry and damson trees, to avoid Silver Leaf disease. 5. Protect Your Plants Protect tender plants such as tree ferns by covering their crowns and wrap your banana’s trunk in fleece. Mulch or place a deep pile of straw over Dahlias. Pop cloches over delicate veg like salad leaves and keep an eye out for pests. 6. Get Your Seedlings Ready for Spring Get ready for planting in the spring by keeping germinated seedlings in a sheltered cold frame and watch out for pests. You can start sowing them at the tail end of February. 7. Help the Wildlife in your Garden Leave some seed heads standing as they provide food for birds and some animals, hollow stems can also act as homes for insects like ladybirds over the winter. Also, keep an eye out for hedgehogs, as, although they normally hibernate from October, they may still be out in mild temperatures and may wake up for brief periods in search of food. So, leaving out some cat biscuit wouldn’t go amiss. We hope these gardening tips keep your garden in tip-top shape over the winter and looking spectacular come the spring. We can’t wait to welcome you back to The Yeo Valley Organic Garden, which will reopen to visitors on Thursday, 9th April 2026. In the meantime, you can come and visit us at our HQ Staff Canteen in Blagdon for a tasty lunch.

By Dr Alice Mayor  September has been and gone, and we are truly back in the swing of the school routine. For many parents, that also means being back in the habit of prepping lunchboxes.  It’s easy to get stuck for ideas and feel like you’re packing the same thing every day. To help, here are 5 healthy, simple lunchbox ideas and some of my expert tips for variety, balance, and nutrition.  What are some healthy lunchbox ideas for kids? 1. 2-Ingredient Bagels  A homemade bread alternative using Yeo Valley Greek Recipe yogurt and flour. These are soft, filling, and much less processed than shop-bought bread.  Tip: For store-bought alternatives, look for pitta breads with minimal ingredients they are often cheaper and less processed than sliced bread. 2. Veggie-Packed Sandwich Fillers  I use tuna, chicken, or chickpeas mixed with vegetables and Yeo Valley Organic Greek Recipe yogurt. They are a healthier alternative to mayonnaise in sandwiches. This makes a creamy, lighter filling with extra protein.  3. Smokey Carrot Fritters   These are my tasty teatime leftover that doubles as a lunchbox snack. These are good lunch box fillers, that aren’t sandwiches, alongside a selection of chopped veggies and Yeo Valley Organic Cheddar cheese. These add colour, fibre, and flavour to lunchboxes.  4. Dairy Boost with Little Yeos   A kid-friendly way to include calcium and B vitamins. Dairy is important for calcium, iodine, and B vitamins.   Tip: For lower-sugar options, try the Little Yeos no added sugar range or the Natural Greek style pouch, delicious, nutritious, and guaranteed to come home empty!   5. Apple Oat Muffins   A naturally sweet treat with oats and fresh apples. These are naturally sweet, high in fibre, and perfect for busy kids at the end of the week.   Tip: for lunchboxes and weekdays I make mini versions in a mini muffin mould and without the icing. Packed with oats and apple these are great for stuffing in lunch boxes to fuel active kids.  The best kids' dairy products for kids' lunchboxes are: 1. Greek Style Pouch 2. Little Yeos no added sugar 3. Fruity Favourites 4. Strawberry and Raspberry Fromage Frais 5. Red Berries Pouch

5 Healthy and Easy Lunchbox Ideas for Kids

This year Yeo Valley Organic planted a seed of a brand-new idea and it blossomed into something truly special. Inspired by the concept of “a Groundswell for gardeners”, Sarah Mead dreamed up the very first Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival. The aim? To inspire gardeners of all kinds to think greener about how we grow, with sustainability and nature at the heart. A Festival Rooted in Sustainability The festival was built around sustainable gardening practices, bringing together experts and enthusiasts to share knowledge, spark ideas, and celebrate nature. With an incredible line-up of speakers, including Arit Anderson, Alys Fowler, and Frances Tophill, visitors left with practical tips and a fresh dose of inspiration. Thanks to our sponsors Niwaki and Rocket Grow, the festival stretched across three main stages: The Hive The Germination Station The Yurt Each day explored a different theme: Seeds of Change, People & Pollinators, and Mission Possible. Highlights from the Speakers From Charles Dowding’s expert insights on No-Dig Gardening to Georgie Newbery’s hands-on session on sustainable floristry, there was something for everyone. Visitors even had the chance to pick up a signed copy of books by their favourite speakers at the Bookworm Shop. At The Hive, discussions buzzed with questions like: Why do we garden? How can gardeners take responsibility for climate change? These thought-provoking debates brought together brilliant panellists and enthusiastic audiences eager to play their part in a greener future. A Celebration of Nature In The Yurt, visitors got up close with a working beehive, learning how pollinators are the unsung heroes of our gardens. This hands-on experience showed just how vital bees are in keeping our plants, and our planet, thriving. Meanwhile, in the tranquil Birch Grove, guests could pause and unwind with Auntie Flo’s immersive soundscape a unique composition created entirely from the raw heartbeat of nature. This wasn’t just music; it was a moment to reconnect, reflect, and let nature’s rhythm take over. Why the Yeo Valley Garden Festival Matters Across three packed days and over thirty inspiring sessions, the Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival provided fertile ground for ideas to grow. It gave gardeners a space to: Learn practical, sustainable gardening techniques Connect with fellow green-fingered enthusiasts Explore the impact of gardening on wellbeing and biodiversity And as if nature wanted to give its own seal of approval, a rainbow appeared at the end of the final talk, the perfect close to an unforgettable first year. Join the Movement The Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival was just the beginning. With sustainability, community, and creativity at its roots, this festival is set to grow even bigger and brighter. The Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival is Back for 2026!

As a nutritionist and a busy mum, granola is one of my go-to breakfasts. Yeo Valley Organic granola is packed with oats, nuts, and seeds, offering a delicious way to incorporate a variety of plants and a good dose of fibre into your diet. I often discuss fibre because most people could benefit from eating more. We should aim for 30 g daily, but many people fall short of this. Boosting the amount of fibre in the diet has many benefits, but most importantly, it is a great way to look after your gut and the trillions of microbes that inhabit it. Another important way to look after your gut health is to eat a diverse range of plant foods like nuts, seeds, fruits and whole grains. Along with fibre, nuts and seeds contain healthy fats, including omega-3 (great for brain health), protein, and other important micronutrients. Brazil nuts, for example, are selenium powerhouses. Selenium is an antioxidant that helps with normal immune and thyroid function. Breakfast cereals offer a quick and convenient breakfast, but I am often wary of the cereal aisle in the supermarket. Finding cereals that use whole, natural ingredients without additives can be challenging. However, the Yeo Valley Organic granola does just that, as it is made with no added fillers or ingredients you wouldn’t find in your kitchen cupboards. It is simple, but sometimes the best things are. What’s also fantastic about the Yeo Valley Organic granola is that it is made with 100% organic British oats. Although we often think about fruits and vegetables when it comes to pesticide residues, other foods, including non-organic oats, have been found to have high levels of residues as they tend to be sprayed close to being harvested. By choosing organic, you are minimising exposure to these residues. Another reason to choose organic is that research has shown organic food to be richer in nutrients and around 40% richer in polyphenols (beneficial plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties). Breakfast can often be a rushed affair, but granola is a simple and delicious way to start the day. I love to have my granola with the Yeo Valley Organic Kefir potted yogurt to further support gut health. I also love to add berries and a good dollop of nut butter to top. You will also see me grabbing a handful of granola as a quick snack because who said granola is just for breakfast? Four curious kids visit Farmer Will to uncover how Little Yeos yogurts are made, asking every question they can think of.

Little Yeos Big Questions

As they strolled through rows of organic British Blackcurrants, Sarah caught up with Farmer James to find out exactly how their juicy organic British Blackcurrants go from crop to Yeo Valley Organic pots and how we've worked in partnership with a fellow British family farm for years.

What makes Snells in Herefordshire the perfect partner for the blackcurrants in our organic yogurt? We have worked with 2 generations of the Snell Family for well over a decade, using their delicious organic blackcurrants in both our fruity big pots and our Fruity Favourites 4 pack. Strong communication is key - throughout the year, we will have regular catch-ups, so that we can ensure that both our volume requirements and the expected yields are aligned, and we have early insight into what is happening with the crop through the seasons. We have a year-round commitment to one another – a fruit with a story, a place and a purpose – something truly special. Can you describe the unique flavour profile of these delicious blackcurrants?

Blackcurrants are naturally tart and tangy, and so a great combination with our yogurt, their bold flavour balanced by the creaminess. Beneath the sharp, zesty edge of the blackcurrant lies a rich, dark berry sweetness – delicious.

What is special about the relationship between Yeo Valley and British fruit farmers like The Snell Family, and how does this partnership ensure the highest quality organic fruit? We work hard to ensure that our relationships with farms such as Snells are based on a solid foundation of good communication and mutual understanding. At Yeo Valley, we have high-quality standards that need to be maintained to produce fantastic yogurts. In turn, we work closely to understand whether there are any particular challenges that might be coming down the road where we might be able to support. Working with transparency and honesty is always something that I prioritise, remembering that we are all human and all working hard in our own areas to produce great quality blackcurrants that will go into the best yogurt! What’s the journey from Snell’s blackcurrant bushes to finished yogurt? The blackcurrant season begins in July and usually goes through to mid-August, weather dependent of course. At Snells, the fruit harvester works through the fields as the blackcurrants ripen, with the fruit then going to be frozen and final sorting to ensure all stems are removed. From there, the lorry is loaded and off down to our factory in Crewkerne, where the fruit preps (jammy yumminess!) are produced, which are subsequently added to the yogurt to produce the best home-grown blackcurrant goodness. If customers are trying British Blackcurrant for the first time, what would you want them to know about the care, tradition and expertise that Herefordshire farmers like Snells brought to growing this distinctly British fruit?

The Snell family have been farming blackcurrants for 3 generations – consumers are not just tasting the fruit but they are experiencing generations of care, tradition and deep-rooted expertise. Some of the farms will have been growing for over 50 years – a strong heritage that Yeo Valley are proud to support. The blackcurrants must be grown with meticulous attention to the environment, and often implementing schemes supporting biodiversity and soil health. Families such as The Snells have refined their techniques over many years to balance traditional methods with innovation to grow the best berries and to the highest standards. If this blog has made you crave the taste of our British Blackcurrant Fruity Big Pot or Fruity Favourites, head to your local supermarket and enjoy!

Our Blackcurrant Fruity Big Pot is back on the shelves! To celebrate we visited the Snell family farm to see where our delicious organic blackcurrants come from.

What is Organic September? Organic September is an annual celebration of all things organic. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of organic – for people and the planet. The campaign draws together organic businesses from a wide range of sectors, including food and beverages and health and beauty, to highlight what these companies are doing . Why is Organic September important? Organic September is a great opportunity for people to learn more about choosing organic, and the positive impact it can have on the planet. Did you know, agricultural emissions could drop by 40-50% by 2050 if all of Europe’s farmland followed organic principles?! (1) The Organic September campaign helps showcase why organic farming is so important, which hopefully influences more people to choose organic more often! What does Organic mean? Farming and producing organically ensures all parts of the supply chain are benefited. Whether that be the soil that grows the crops, the animals that produce products, the wildlife that live on the farm, or those that consume the product – each stakeholder is cared for and looked after to create high-quality products. For a product to be labelled as organic, at least 95% of ingredients must be produced organically. (2) So, by buying organic you are saying no to artificial fertilisers and chemical pesticides, ensuring higher animal welfare, and helping protect the local environment. How can you get involved? Throughout September (and beyond!) there are many ways you can get involved with the Organic September campaign. Whether that be making a conscious decision to try shopping organically this September, sharing your love for organic on social media, or organising an event in your local area. And if you’d like to put your wellies where your mouth is, come and visit the Yeo Valley Organic Garden. Find out more and book your tickets here. Want to find out more about Organic September? Visit the Soil Association website to learn more about switching to an organic lifestyle and the different benefits this can bring. The Yeo Valley Organic Garden is open to visitors throughout September, so come visit us to experience the beauty of organic gardening. What Is Organic September?

It’s the summer holidays, and if your kids are anything like mine, the change in routine leads to more frequent calls for snacks. Today, for me, that came approximately 45 minutes after a hearty breakfast! I find being prepared with snack ideas is a huge help, especially with the long holidays, and sometimes you just need a little inspiration. I like to get in some great nutritious options, but we also like to include some fun foods or something we have created together in the kitchen. My biggest tip when it comes to snacking is to try to keep to a regular time each day and avoid snacks too close to mealtimes. This is not always possible, but there is nothing worse than lovingly preparing meals that don’t get eaten due to full tummies. One fun way to give kids some independence but also guide their choices is to create a special snack box. Prepare a few different snack options to put into the box that can be used that day or over a couple of days. Then, when it's snack time, they get the choice of one snack from the box, but when it’s gone, it's gone, and there are no alternatives. It’s great to get kids involved in putting together the boxes and getting a bit creative. Here are some of my favourite snack options. Energy Balls – These are so easy to make and are fab for on the go. They are also a great way to pack in some nutritious foods into a tasty bite. Try these naturally sweet apricot and coconut energy balls. Veggie sticks and hummus – You really can’t go wrong with this classic, and it’s a great way of ensuring you are getting some veggies in, think carrot sticks, cucumber, peppers and celery. Oatcakes with toppings - Oatcakes are a great, minimally processed store-bought option that is a source of fibre from the wholegrains, but can be brought to life with adventurous toppings. Try combinations like cream cheese and grapes, peanut butter and banana slices or even some Yeo Valley Greek Recipe yogurt and a drizzle of honey. Little Yeos pouches – My go-to for days out, and I know these will be loved by everyone. Mini cheese and grape kebabs – Cut up some Yeo Valley Organic Cheddar cheese into small chunks and thread with grapes onto cocktail sticks. Blackberry muffins with yogurt icing – If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous to bake with your kids then why not try these yummy blackberry muffins. Plus, with blackberries starting to appear blackberry picking makes a great activity to do with kids, fingers crossed there are some left when you get home for your muffins.

It’s the summer holidays and tummies are always hungry! Dr Alice shares her top tips for managing the constant snack requests.

It’s the final week to visit The Big Friendly Wallace! Proudly sponsored by Yeo Valley Organic, this larger-than-life sculpture reimagines Wallace through the whimsical lens of Roald Dahl's The BFG. He is ready to catch dreams, sip fizzy Frobscottle, and maybe even let out a whizzpop or two.” Painted by the brilliantly talented Laurie Stansfield, The Big Friendly Wallace has been brightening up The New Inn in Blagdon since his big reveal on 30th June. Visitors have been flocking to see him in person, and we're loving all the selfies, stories, and smiles he's bringing to the trail. If you haven't stopped by yet, don't worry - he'll be on display until 31st August, giving you plenty of time to join in the fun. And for an extra treat, The New Inn is serving a themed menu that's well worth the trip! But this trail isn't just about cracking sculptures. Gromit Unleashed 3 is part of a much bigger mission: to raise vital funds for The Grand Appeal, the official charity for Bristol Children's hospital and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Every visit helps support lifesaving care for sick children and babies across the region, with proceeds going directly toward specialist equipment, family support services, and pioneering research. So if you're looking for a fun summer day out, head over to Blagdon to meet The Big Friendly Wallace in person. Grab a bite, snap a pic, and help spread the word. Cracking stuff, Gromit!

The Big Friendly Wallace sculpture is turning heads on this summer’s Gromit Unleashed 3 trail!

Say Hello to The Big Friendly Wallace!

Now in our third consecutive year supporting this vibrant celebration of regenerative agriculture, Groundswell continues to bring together a dynamic community of farmers, growers, and changemakers to explore sustainable food systems. From no-till and cover cropping to soil health and carbon capture this is all done with the aim of working in harmony with nature. In the evening, we hosted our own drinks party, giving invited guests the opportunity to connect and raise a glass to a shared vision for a better future in food and farming. Yeo Valley’s Business Change & Projects Manager, Will Mayor, spoke on the Gaining Ground panel, exploring how farms can build resilience through regenerative practices. Will sat alongside our Regenerative Project Manager, Tom White, who leads our agriculture team and has driven initiatives like the Carbon Soil Project and a five-year soil carbon testing pilot at our Somerset farm. He now works across both organic and non-organic dairy supply chains to help develop more sustainable systems. Across two packed days and more than 120 sessions, Groundswell 2025 offered a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, connect with fellow changemakers, and continue driving forward the regenerative movement. We’re already looking forward to returning in 2026 for more conversations, collaborations, and everything green and regenerative. Catch more from our time at Groundswell over on our social channels.

Yeo Valley Organic returns to Groundswell 2025!

Groundswell 2025

There are lots of jobs to do in the garden at this time of year, so I thought we could share some of the most important tasks the team have been carrying out recently… 1. Cutting back herbaceous perennials, and deciduous grasses This task is left for as long as possible because the hollow stems, seed heads and leaf litter from last year’s growth are important food sources and habitats for our wildlife. This job can be done later, however, for the Yeo Valley Organic Gardening Team, we need to cut all the dead stems back as low as we can without damaging any of the new shoots emerging from the base of the plants. The Gravel Garden alone generated over 13 cubic meters of waste, which is now steaming away on the compost heap! 2. Mulching Adding mulch to the surface of our soil is one of, if not, the best thing we can do for our gardens! As we are learning more, we now know that we should be covering bare soil at all times. We cover ours with our own compost. It helps to hold moisture in the soil during the summer, smothers annual weeds, improves soil structure and most importantly, it feeds the soil food web. If your soil microbes are happy, your plants will benefit no end! I could go on for a very long time on this subject, it is fascinating! If you’re interested, I would recommend a book by Diane Miessler called ‘Grow Your Soil!”. Also anything by Dr Elaine Ingham. It’s mind blowing! 3. Splitting snowdrops After the flowers have faded, it’s time to split up your clumps and replant. Doing this will really bulk up your display. Good sized clumps can be split two or three times and be re-planted ‘in the green’ to begin forming a carpet of beautiful white flowers indicating Spring isn’t too far away. 4. Vegetable garden Our beds are already mulched with compost, our soil microbes are happy, and we are ready to go! It’s still a bit early to sow outdoors, but we are busy chitting potatoes, and in the greenhouse we have sown parsley, chillies, tomatoes, broad beans, lettuce and spring onions. 5. Cleaning the greenhouse We clean both the inside and outside, from top to bottom. Clean glass means all our little seedlings will absorb lots of sunlight and grow into strong, healthy plants. By deep cleaning the inside too, we are limiting potential pest and disease problems. 6. Keeping weeds at bay As the days get longer and milder(ish!), the weeds will start growing. Pull them up when you see them because tackling them now means less work later in the season. Well, these are some of the main Spring jobs here in the garden. I hope you found something interesting in this list that relates to your own garden, and you’re able to get out and have fun preparing for Spring! Don’t forget to come and say hello to the team next time you are visiting The Yeo Valley Organic Garden. Did you know after our successful first year the Yeo Valley Garden Festival will return in September 2026? A celebration of gardening sustainability, bringing 3 days of celebration packed with expert speakers, workshops, discussions and of course great food to the heart of the North Somerset Countryside. We hope this vibrant gathering will inspire all whether novice or enthusiasts, to explore nature-friendly practices. We can barely contain our excitement - can you?

Summer Staycation in Somerset

Apart from tasting great, organic grass-fed beef is a great addition to our plates. It’s also a source of protein and micronutrients such as iron, B12 and zinc1. Iron is used for many bodily functions, from contributing to the reduction of tiredness to transporting oxygen around the body in our red blood cells. At Yeo Valley Organic, our British organic herds roam freely, grazing on organic pastures for as long as the weather allows. These diverse pastures are nurtured in harmony with the soil without artificial fertilisers and chemical pesticides ensuring a natural, sustainable approach to farming. New research shows that what cows eat matters. A study has found that grass-fed organic beef has more beneficial omega-3 fatty acids2,3. It’s believed to be due to organically reared animals eating grass, which contains the fats they require to develop, rather than concentrated cereal feeds. All this burger talk made you hungry? Our burger-inspired meal ideas have got you covered... To get a flippin’ delicious burger, pan-fry your patty for 10-12 minutes on a high heat until it’s searing hot, then bring the heat down to medium. Cook for a further 5-6 minutes on each side, turning regularly and pressing down firmly. Ensure it’s piping hot and fully cooked throughout before you tuck in. If you’re feeling fancy, finish off on the BBQ for some flame grilled flavour. References   1 – Kavanaugh, et al. Flippin' Delicious

As a mum myself, I love to swing by our local cafe en-route to the park for pastries (and much-needed coffee), but most of the time we aim to bring our own food. This not only helps save the pennies but ensures there is something nutritious for the kids to eat, which isn’t always available when you’re out. Preparing food for on-the-go can feel like yet another barrier to getting out the door, but a little prep goes a long way toward making outings with kids that little bit smoother. That is why having little Yeos pouches on hand can be a quick, fuss-free option to grab when leaving the house. With plenty of choices in the range, including No-Added-Sugar and Greek-style Natural pouches, Little Yeos are my go-to.   Some of my other favourite snacks to take are things like fruit, veg sticks, cheese and oat cakes, left over pancakes or something from my freezer stash, like mini muffins or scones, that I take out to defrost the night before.   When the days get a bit warmer, we try to spend more time outdoors with all the excitement of picnic lunches. When preparing lunches on the go, I still aim for balance, meaning we include one of each of the following.   A portion of starchy carbohydrates like bread, wraps, pasta, etc, and aim to include a variety of wholegrain and white versions.   A portion of protein such as beans, eggs, fish, and meat (for on-the-go tinned fish like tuna works well).   Portion of vegetables and fruit. For on-the-go, carrot sticks, cucumber, peppers, and tomatoes are great options; if you have any leftover cooked veggies, these are also easy to bring along.   A portion of dairy and Little Yeo’s Organic Pouches are the perfect on-the-go solution.   Staying hydrated is important, and for most kids, water is the best option alongside their usual milk. My favourite on-the-go lunches include things like pinwheels, sandwiches, fritters, savoury muffins or simple pasta dishes that can be eaten cold. I try to utilise leftovers whenever possible to save time. See below for my favourite salmon, pea and cheddar fritter recipe.  Where possible, it’s great to get kids involved in preparing food to take out and give them some choices so they have a sense of independence and control. It can also help to ensure there are some familiar and trusted foods alongside anything new.   When it comes to packing up food, you don’t need anything fancy; some simple Tupperware or any reusable containers will do. Don’t forget the best bit about eating in the great outdoors with kids is there is no mega clean-up operation involving crawling around under the table with a dustpan and brush.

Getting out the door with kids is one of life’s greatest challenges, not to mention the number of things you need to pack. Many parents will agree that, for days out, packing snacks is essential for when tummies get hungry.

A Nutritionist’s Tips for Eating on-the-go with Kids

It may not come as a surprise that children are eating too much sugar, over twice the recommended amount. Whilst there is no specific limit on sugar for children under the age of 4, it is advised that they should avoid or minimise added sugars. The maximum recommended daily amount of sugar for 4–6-year-olds is 19 g (5 sugar cubes) a day.   Sugar on its own is not a necessary part of our diets and doesn’t add much nutritional value beyond simple calories. We know that too much sugar is bad for children’s health and can have long-term consequences. Limiting sugar is also important for children’s dental health. However, whilst it is easy to demonise sugar, it is also worth recognising that food is also there for enjoyment and sugar can be a part of a balanced and healthy diet, albeit in moderation.  The term added sugars can be confusing, added sugars are sugars that are added to food or drinks, as well as sugars found naturally in things like honey, syrups and juice. Natural sugars, however, are different and refer to the sugars that naturally occur in foods such as whole fruit, vegetables, milk and natural yogurt, and there is no need to cut down on these types of sugars.   In the early stages of weaning and for smaller children under the age of 2, it is helpful to avoid added sugars where possible. In general, babies prefer sweet tastes. So to avoid a preference for sweet foods and to encourage acceptance of a diversity of flavours, avoiding too much sugar and incorporating a range of tastes, including bitter vegetables, can really help.  That is why Little Yeos No Added Sugar range is perfect for those early years to support little ones who are learning those important new skills and are developing their taste. The yogurts are made with natural and organic ingredients and carefully selected fruits to give a mild but delicious flavour.   As children get older, it can be more challenging to avoid sugar, but as parents, we can help support them to navigate healthy food choices and show them that foods don’t need to be feared. Enjoying occasional sweet foods is part of childhood and making special memories of birthdays and celebrations.   If you are looking at ways to reduce sugar in your children’s diet, check out these lower-sugar swaps below for some inspiration.   5 low sugar swaps and tips   Breakfast swap - Breakfast cereals are often a source of added sugars, so opt for oats to make porridge and baby Bircher or wheat biscuits. You can then add your own sweetness by adding fruit, yogurt like Little Yeos No-Added-Sugar yogurts.  Baking swap - Use naturally sweet foods like ripe bananas and dates to sweeten bakes. See our recipe for no-added-sugar banana and blueberry mini muffins.    Drink swap - Avoid fruit juice and fizzy drinks. Instead, opt for milk or water. You can even flavour your own water with frozen berries or cucumber and lemon.   Toast topping swap - Toast is often a hit with children, but instead of sugary toppings like jam or chocolate spread, try lower-sugar options such as chia jam or nut butter. These toppings also contain fibre and healthy fats.   Pudding swap - Swap sugary puddings for lower sugar yogurts like Little Yeos No Added Sugar yogurts and fruit.

As a parent, navigating feeding your children its not always easy, particularly when it comes to sugar. So, what is the low down on sugar for kids?

A nutritionists low down on sugar for kids and five low-sugar swaps

Six months is also the time most babies are showing signs that they are ready for weaning, meaning they are usually showing these three key signs:   They can sit upright in a seated position and hold their head steady.   They have developed their hand-eye coordination and can bring food to their mouth.   They can swallow more food than is pushed out. This is the tongue thrust reflex, which starts to disappear around 4-6 months.    Introducing solid foods is a fun learning curve for your little one as they will be learning new skills such as putting food in their mouth, biting and chewing.   In the lead-up to weaning, it can be worth spending a bit of time planning and thinking about your baby’s first meals. You can even prep ahead some foods to pop in the freezer.   You don’t need much to start your weaning journey, but you will need a few basic items. See my equipment checklist below for the essentials.   Equipment checklist  Highchair – Supportive highchair, ideally with a footrest, so your baby is in a good, seated position.   Bowls – suction bowls are great as chances are they will be picked up and thrown!   Weaning spoons – Soft spoons that are gentle on little gums   Ice cube tray – Great for freezing small portions and purees   Blender – A stick blender or any sort of blender can be helpful, but not essential, as most things can be adequately mashed with the back of a fork.   Cups – It is good to introduce sips of water so your baby can start to learn the skill of drinking from a cup.   Bibs – Long-sleeved and catch-all bibs are handy, as chances are it will get messy.  It is recommended to start with single tastes of vegetables that aren’t so sweet, such as broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, before going on to combinations of vegetables and sweeter foods like fruits. There is some evidence to suggest that by doing this, you help encourage acceptance of a wider range of flavours and not just a preference for sweeter tastes.   For first meals, that might look like some pureed broccoli maybe mixed with a little of baby’s usual milk served alongside some soft, cooked broccoli florets.   Once underway with weaning and you have introduced a range of foods, including allergens, dairy, in particular yogurt, can be a nutritious addition to your little one’s diet. Dairy provides a range of nutrients such as protein, calcium and B vitamins, to name but a few.   I often find that adding Yeo Valley Organic Natural Yogurt to foods like curries, pasta sauces, and dips is a great way to help nurture babies’ developing palettes. Little Yeos No-Added-Sugar yogurts are also an easy win for fuss free mealtimes. Made with 100% organic ingredients, they have certainly been a much-loved addition to my children’s weaning journeys.   Weaning is full of ups and downs, often it feels like there is more food on the floor than in the mouth. Things don’t always go to plan, but when Little Yeos come out in my house there is always a smile.        Extra resources  British Nutrition Foundation  https://www.nutrition.org.uk/nutrition-for/baby/introducing-solid-foods-to-your-baby/  NHS Start for life   https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/weaning/  Charlotte Stirling-Reed  https://www.srnutrition.co.uk/

Preparing for weaning can feel overwhelming, but watching your babies’ face as they take their first tastes and the joy that comes with this new and exciting experience is a lot of fun.

Preparing for weaning and beyond

When it comes to running and nutrition, getting the basics right is a good place to start. Try to focus on eating balanced meals that contain a source of protein, high-quality carbohydrates (whole grains like brown bread, pasta and rice) and healthy fats.   We are hearing a lot about protein, but what exactly is it? Protein is a macronutrient that is made up of building blocks called amino acids and is important for repairing and building muscle. Protein can also help us feel fuller for longer. Foods that provide protein are things like beans, pulses, eggs, fish, meat and dairy such as milk and yogurt. It is great to incorporate a range of proteins into your diet.   So here are my top nutritionist tips for running. These are very much tried and tested as I recently started out on my own running journey, starting with a couch to 5K and now onto bigger goals! Whatever your level of exercise, whether you're training for a marathon or running for the morning bus, these tips will work for you. Tip 2: Meal planning and prep. Try planning and prepping meals and snacks so when you come back from a run, you have a nutritious meal or snack at the ready. When you increase the amount you are exercising, it is likely your appetite will also increase, so having nutritious foods ready will help. Set realistic goals and don’t worry about planning out the entire week.   I love using the Greek recipe to make simple protein-rich snacks. I like to add berries, nuts and seeds or use it to make a homemade protein shake. See recipe below.   In the Greek recipe range, there is also the option of the 0% fat Greek recipe which is still high in protein but is lower in saturated fats for people looking to limit saturated fats. Tip 4: Have a food-first approach. It is easy to feel the pressure from the wellness world to reach for a supplement or protein powder, but for the majority of us, we can get all the nutrition we need from real food. Whilst there will always be exceptions to this rule, there is no doubt a whole food diet is best and enables you to maximise on all the other nutritional benefits whole foods offer. That is why Greek Recipe, with its simple and natural ingredients, is my go-to. It also tastes absolutely delicious.   Tip 5: Food is to be enjoyed. Try to steer clear of a restrictive approach and instead think about all the wonderful foods you could be including in your diet. That includes a slice of your favourite cake. Fancy blending together your very own berry protein shake? Ingredients 1 tbsp Yeo Valley Organic Greek Recipe yogurt   150 ml Yeo Valley Organic Milk   Handful of frozen berries   Handful of mixed nuts   1 tbsp flaxseeds  1 tbsp chia seeds  1 tsp nut butter of choice Method Blend all the ingredients together and enjoy!

Whether you're just starting out or training for a marathon, these tips are sure to help you get off on the right foot!

Dr Alice's Top Nutritional Tips for Running

“As been 60 years since my husband Roger and I started our farming career at Holt Farm; 50 years as yogurt makers and 30 years as an organic brand, I thought it might be interesting to cast my mind back over the changes that dairy farming has experienced during that time. Did you know that in 1961, when Holt Farm was purchased, milk producers in the UK numbered around 100,000 with an average herd size of 22, but today, 90% of those farms have gone and the average herd of 200 is more commonplace. In 1961, Roger and I were able to secure the 150-acre Holt Farm in Blagdon, North Somerset. The farm had accommodation for 35 cows and a small milking parlour. We quickly decided that the land, which tended to be wet, didn’t really suit sheep and so we started to increase the number of dairy cows. We also increased the size of our family as Sarah, born in 1962 was joined by Tim in 1963, and Amanda completed our family in 1969. After nine years, in 1970, we took the opportunity to purchase the neighbouring 40-acre Lag Farm, after arranging further borrowing. We were up to about 150 cows on 200 acres. Later on, we bought Merecombe Farm across the road, this added another 90 acres, but the land needed reclaiming and eventually, we added a milking parlour, where we milked most of the herd in the summer, taking Holt for silage. Using converted buildings at Lag Farm and second-hand equipment bought from a recently defunct milk collection centre, we took the first tentative steps to trial the making of yogurt. As Holt Farm lay beside a busy road, we had also launched into ‘pick your own strawberries and sweetcorn’, growing and selling potatoes as well. We had established a small café with home baked scones and jam, with cream from the dairy herd. Yogurt was the perfect solution for using the skimmed milk that was left over from making cream, although it was still very much a novelty back then. In 1974, we began making yogurt for local shops. As the new enterprise took up more and more of Roger’s time and, as I had always been involved in ‘keeping the books’, this became my prime input for the farm. However, I had become increasingly fascinated by the breeding of British Friesians and this became an all-consuming passion! After Roger died in a farming accident in 1990, I took on the responsibility for the farm as, together with our son Tim, we decided to fulfil his vision for the business. At the time, the farm covered 350 acres and the yogurt business employed 135 people. With the help of Tim joining Yeo Valley, Roger’s existing management team and the talented individuals who have since joined us, the business has grown to formerly unimaginable heights. The decision to convert the farm to an organic system in 1994 was a logical progression to help us become more self-sufficient and, of course, the success of the Yeo Valley Organic products meant that there was a growing demand for organic milk. However, organic is no easy choice, nor is it quick and it was over eight years before we achieved our organic status across all the land. The use of artificial fertiliser and pesticides is, of course, prohibited and it has been fascinating to observe how well the land and the animals have reacted to the change to a more natural way of farming. Over the years, it has been a privilege to have seen more women come into the farming industry; noticeably women working with livestock. At Yeo Valley’s own farms, we are fortunate to have equal numbers of women and men working on the farm. It’s been a pleasure to observe an inclusive environment for all, where everyone feels valued and part of a team. What a journey it has been.

Think all things sweet and savoury! From croissants and quiches to vol-au-vents and pies! Armed with a rolling pin and a passion for pastry, Jade is here to whisk up buttery, flaky treats. Jade started with Yeo Valley on the 13th January, so we thought what better time to sit down and find out what a day in her choux’s looks like…. 1. What did you have for breakfast? I had a coffee and some shortbread. I’m still getting into a routine with waking up and making breakfast as I have been skipping it and having a double dinner. 2. What’s one thing that surprised you at Yeo? I didn’t realise how big Yeo Valley HQ was until I got lost a few times as there are so many doors! I also underestimated all the different styles of décor and how friendly everyone is, even the big bosses! 3. What led you to Yeo? Someone I was working with in my last job used to work at Yeo Valley Organic and said nothing but good things about the business. 4. What’s your favourite thing to do in Bristol/Somerset? I love to eat and drink – my favourite pub is Flan O’Briens as they do the best Guinness in Bath! 5. What work-related accomplishment are you really proud of? Simply arriving at work on time every day! I hate waking up early when it is pitch black outside so it makes getting out of bed difficult. 6. If you could add one thing to the office, farm, garden, Canteen what would it be? I think there is certainly room to add a few more disco balls, and the cow could get some more accessories – maybe a cowgirl hat! 8. What’s the best advice you’ve been given? You can’t water dead plants – you’re not going to please everyone so don’t water something that isn’t worth your time. I took this quote from someone I follow on Instagram and have stuck by it ever since. 9. If you could eat one Yeo Valley product for the rest of your life, what would it be? Strawberry yogurt – I have purchased product to try so I’m going to do a taste test as there are lots of yogurts I haven't tried yet. 10. What is your favourite season and why? Spring, as it is my birthday season, and the season of easter baking and mini eggs which are my favourite! Next time your visiting Yeo Valley HQ why not see if you can spot Jade in the kitchen hard at work!

Meet Jade, the newest member of the kitchen team at Yeo Valley!

Nice to Meet Yeo: Jade

As pretty big fans of milk we were very interested to read news that a large UK study has found evidence that people with more calcium in their diet – equivalent to a glass of milk a day – can help reduce their risk of bowel cancer. Good news for dairy fans! What did the study find? The Oxford University and Cancer Research UK study, suggests that the reason dairy products can have this effect is down to calcium, which can be found in all of our favourite dairy products. They found that an extra 300mg of calcium a day in the diet, or a large glass of milk, lowers your risk by 17%.   The researchers in the study analysed the diets of more than half a million women over 16 years and found that dairy products, as well as dark leafy greens and bread containing calcium also had a protective effect. (We’ll take that as cue to eat more cheesy toasties…) So what is calcium and what is its effects? The lowdown We spoke to our very own Dr Alice Mayor, our in-house registered nutritionist to dig into more of the magic of milk:    “The incredible thing about milk is that not only is it delicious, it is packed with nutrients such as protein, iodine, potassium, phosphorus, and riboflavin, as well as the hero here, calcium. Milk, for many of us, is also an important source of B12 in our diets.  “Milk can help support a range of bodily functions – from keeping muscles, bones and teeth healthy, to supporting normal immune function.  “It is also a whole-natural food that is minimally processed (unlike many alternative milks on the market that are reliant on additives and fortification to improve their nutritional profile to be more like cow’s milk).   “Milk has even been suggested as a good recovery drink after exercise due to its perfect balance of carbohydrates, protein, and electrolytes. “Furthermore, organic cows are out whenever possible, grazing on diverse pastures without the presence of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. This makes their milk more nutrient-rich. Research has shown that organic milk has a higher concentration of omega-3 fatty acids compared to non-organic milk. Omega-3 has been linked to multiple health benefits including its anti-inflammatory effects, as well as with its potential to protect us from cardiovascular disease.” If you’d like to find out more about our organic milk, please head here: https://www.yeovalley.co.uk/blog/what-are-the-benefits-of-organic-dairy

A new study highlights the true benefits of milk for our health.

Dairy Gold - The Benefits of Milk

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you already choose organic. You probably know it means “no nasties” with toxic herbicides, chemical pesticides and artificial fertilisers not permitted. But what does organic stand for, as well as what it stands against? Below, we’ve broken down why we believe organic farming is beneficial. Each point matters on its own, but organic is more than the sum of its parts. It’s not just about producing food, it’s about working with nature in a way that benefits us all. Yeo Valley Organic’s Farms Development Manager, William Mayor, and Sustainability Manager, Daisy Blackhurst, explain why. What are the benefits of organic farming? Organic farming systems can be regenerative “We're capturing ecosystem processes to produce food rather than trying to dominate ecosystems,” says William. “The organic farming system was founded by Eve Balfour, whose early work focused on crop rotation to build soil health. Soil is the foundation of organic agriculture, and a strong system can regenerate biodiversity, support carbon sequestration, and improve air and water quality.” This shows how organic farming works with nature to deliver long-term environmental benefits. Organic is a legal standard “Organic standards are developed through extensive consultation with experts and are enshrined in UK and European law,” explains Daisy. “Not many people realise that organic is a legal standard. Companies are breaking the law if they sell something as organic without certification.” In other words, when you choose organic, you’re choosing food that meets strict, regulated standards. Organic certification covers the full supply chain “The great thing is that organic certification applies at every stage of the supply chain,” says Daisy.
“Each company is inspected at least once a year by a certification body to ensure they meet the standards.” This ensures integrity from farm to table, something that’s central to the organic system. Is organic food better for your health? “Organic is one of the best ways to avoid toxic chemicals in your food,” says Daisy. While more research is ongoing, studies suggest organic foods can contain higher levels of antioxidants. Pasture-fed animals, like those on organic farms, may also produce meat with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Together, this highlights the potential health benefits of choosing organic. What are the general advantages of organic food? Organic food offers a range of benefits: Fewer synthetic chemicals in your diet Food produced using more natural methods Support for soil health and biodiversity A more sustainable way of farming Because organic farming avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, it supports cleaner, more environmentally friendly food production. Can organic food support gut health? “Soil is quite literally the foundation of nutrition,” Daisy explains. “More than two billion people in the world suffer from micronutrient deficiencies. Nutrient-poor soils can’t produce healthy food with all the nutrients a person needs.” Food grown in healthier soils can help support better nutrition and in turn, a healthier gut microbiome. Adding fermented organic foods like cheese, kefir and kimchi can also provide beneficial probiotics. How is organic food processed differently? “When it comes to processed foods, there are additional rules,” Daisy says. Artificial sweeteners, flavourings and anything derived from GM sources are not allowed under organic regulations. This means organic processed foods are held to the same high standards as fresh produce. Does organic farming support animal welfare? Organic standards require animals to have: More space Access to the outdoors Conditions that support natural behaviour This focus on animal welfare is a key part of the organic approach. Can organic farming feed the world? “It’s a common misconception that organic isn’t efficient,” says Will. “I think it depends how you measure it. On my family farm, we look at total food output per hectare, not just one product. We produce milk, beef, lamb, oats, peas and barley within one organic system.” This more holistic approach shows how organic farming can produce diverse, sustainable food systems. How does organic farming benefit the environment? Organic farming supports the environment in several important ways: Improves soil health Reduces water pollution Supports biodiversity Creates habitats for wildlife like bees and birds By working with natural systems, organic farming helps protect the environment for future generations. Why organic is more than just a label As Will puts it: “With organic, we farm as part of an ecosystem. This improves air, water and soil. We farm with nature, not against it, producing food that nourishes both people and the planet.” This bigger picture is what makes organic more than just a label. So, why choose organic? The benefits of organic go far beyond avoiding harmful chemicals. Choosing organic supports: Healthier soils Better animal welfare More sustainable farming Food produced with care for people and the planet It’s a simple choice, but one that makes a real difference, from the soil beneath our feet to the food on our plates.

While Father Christmas might have his workshop of elves, Mat has his good-food-making co-owners (our West-country staff who part own 20% of the business), who have been busy prepping for the festive season ahead. Curious about how our team gets ready? Read on to discover the behind-the-scenes magic here at Yeo. 1. So Mat, when does planning typically begin for the festive season here at Yeo? No matter what time of the year it is, we are always super busy behind the scenes here at Yeo. Nearly 1,700 people work across our five manufacturing sites in Somerset and Devon. The teams are constantly reimagining how we work – upgrading equipment, fine-tuning systems and plotting our future demands. We have been strategically planning stock levels months in advance, ensuring that when the festive rush hits, everyone can grab their favourite Yeo Valley Organic products without a moment’s hesitation. 2. Are there any specific changes made to the production schedule to accommodate the Christmas demand? Christmas is our unique moment to break from our usual 24/7 operations. It's the one time of year we pause our continuous production, giving all our co-owners a chance to enjoy uninterrupted time with their loved ones. We understand the festive spirit extends beyond our walls. That's why we try hard to be flexible with balancing team members' time with our commitment to all our millions of households who purchase a little bit of Yeo every day. It's more than just a production schedule—it's about people, connection, and shared moments. Preparing for the Christmas shutdown is a critical logistical challenge. We carefully plan our stock levels to cover the production pause, ensuring we meet customer needs during the holiday and the start of January—a time when health-conscious consumers are eager for nutritious delicious products like our yogurt and soup. 3. So, what is the key to a successful Christmas period? The team! We are massively fortunate to have such committed and capable teams across our operations which is never more important than throughout the Christmas period and for which I couldn’t be more grateful. 4. Do you have any Christmas traditions with operations? Something that always goes down a treat is the annual Christmas lunch. Wherever our co-owners are based, they take time out to enjoy a festive meal together. Members of the senior team join in by serving the food and showing their appreciation for the team. And who doesn’t love another Christmas roast dinner before the big day? Another highlight is our annual Christmas Raffle, held at all our operations-based sites in Somerset and Devon. With big prizes and enthusiastic participation, the raffles bring an extra dose of festive fun – a tradition we’re all proud of. 5. And finally, what is your favourite Yeo Valley Organic product to enjoy over the festive period? Christmas leftovers might just be my favourite part of the festive period. A good turkey curry topped with a dollop of our Greek Recipe yogurt cannot be beaten!

Yeo Valley Organic does not allow feed additives for the reduction of methane within our supply chain. We instead rely on the natural holistic systems of farming organically. Our focus is based on ecological principles which impose strict limitations on the inputs that can be used to minimise damage to the environment, animals and wildlife. In the UK organic farming is governed by a legal framework. All Yeo Valley Organic products are certified by an approved control body – the Soil Association. The Soil Association organic standards stipulate that all ingredients/components of a feed additive must be actively approved for use and be deemed safe and nutritionally useful for the animal. In relation to Bovaer, the Soil Association has stated that the main components that make up Bovaer are not included in the list of approved products/compounds and as a result, Bovaer would not be permitted for use in organic farming, for all organic products. People who ask this question sometimes go on to ask ‘who owns Yeo Valley?’

Does Yeo Valley use feed additives?

With six-and-a-half acres to care for, the Yeo Valley Organic Garden is a hive of activity, and Lynsey is at the heart of it all. From ensuring our veggies and seasonal blooms thrive to sharing expert tips with visitors and planning future planting schedules, there’s never a dull moment in Lynsey’s day. Read on to discover how Lynsey’s role takes her from the greenhouse to the camera lens - and everywhere in between. 1. What do you do at Yeo Valley Organic? I’m a gardener in the Yeo Valley Organic Garden. 2. How did you get into gardening? It all started with a little Juliette balcony overlooking a grotty Bristol street. I bought planters that hung over the railing and started growing flowers and vegetables in narrow troughs. I loved it and spent my days at work longing to be outside, so I decided to retrain as a gardener. 3. And what led you to Yeo? I visited the Yeo Valley Organic Garden before I even became a gardener and fell in love with it! The garden’s design and sense of humour really stood out to me. It was exactly the kind of place I dreamed of working, so I was absolutely thrilled when I landed the job. 4. What is your top gardening tip? 5. What’s your favourite part of the Yeo Valley Organic Garden? The birch grove. It feels almost ethereal. Even though it’s right in the middle of the garden, it’s tucked away - you stumble upon it by accident. 6. How do you like to start your day? I always stretch in the morning - it helps wake my body up before I get to work. 7. What’s surprised you most about your role at Yeo? How incredibly varied it is! One day we’re weeding, and the next, we’re starring in photoshoots for Which? magazine. If you’d told me that before I joined, I wouldn’t have believed you! 8. Go on, tell us your 15 minutes of fame. I starred in the latest Yeo Valley Organic soup campaign! It was such a blast. I got my hair and makeup done and spent a morning pulling carrots in front of the camera. Every day truly is different here at Yeo! 9. What’s your favourite season and why? I love spring - I think most gardeners do! Plants start to wake up, and there’s a wonderful sense of hope for the season ahead. It’s also one of our busiest times, with so many seeds to sow and so little time! 10. What’s a work-related accomplishment you’re proud of? This might sound boring, but I’m really proud of organising over 25,000 bulbs to be planted in the right areas of the garden. It took two of us and a rather large spreadsheet, but we got it done! 11. What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I could tell you, but then it wouldn’t be a secret anymore... 12. What did you have for breakfast? Banana, cereal, and a delicious dollop of Greek Recipe yogurt. It keeps me going all morning! 13. What’s the weirdest fact you know? Snails have a ‘love dart.’ That’s all I’ll say - some things can’t be unlearned. 14. If you could eat one Yeo Valley product for the rest of your life, what would it be? Ooh, tough one! Probably the black cherry yogurt. It’s just chef’s kiss!

Meet Lynsey, a valuable member of our Garden Team!

Nice to Meet Yeo: Lynsey

As the grandchild of our founders Roger and Mary, Alice has been part of the Yeo Valley story her entire life. Now, she’s joined us professionally, bringing her medical expertise as a doctor and a fresh perspective on health and nutrition to the Yeo team. Alice’s journey took an unexpected turn when she spent a year Down Under. Immersed in the Aussie culture, she fell in love with their approach to food and wellbeing. This experience sparked a new passion, leading her back to London to pursue a master’s in nutrition. And she learned from the best – her lecturers included the renowned Professor Tim Spector. We’re excited to see what tasty creations she’ll come up with next! 1. What led you to Yeo? I’ve grown up around Yeo my whole life. My grandparents first tried their hand at making yogurt down at our family farm in the 1970’s. This year Yeo Valley Organic celebrated its 30th birthday, and I’m 33 which means I’ve watched all the major milestones and the business grow to become the UK’s largest organic brand. 2. What work-related accomplishment are you really proud of? Whilst I was working as a junior doctor, I got a piece of nutritional research published in a medical journal. This study looked at malnutrition in the community, across multiple age groups. I’m still really proud of this research. 3. How do you prefer to start your day? I have to start my day with a cup of tea. I like a nice strong brew, and then milk goes in last, always. And I love to eat Greek Recipe Yogurt, topped with loads of seeds and honey. 4. What’s your go-to productivity trick? Every day, I always make sure I take the time to get some fresh air and move my body. 5. What is your favourite season and why? I think Autumn is probably my favourite season, I generally prefer colder weather and love the change of the leaves and the scenery. Also, all the activities that come with the season are really fun with little ones. 6. What is your favourite food? I’m going to be quite basic and say my favourite food is pasta. I love pasta, topped with anything, but I especially love a really good spag bol. 7. What’s your favourite thing to do in Somerset? One of my favourite ways to spend a weekend is by going on a really good country walk and ending up in a cosy pub. I live in Bath, and one of my favourites there is The Raven. 8. If you could eat one Yeo Valley product for the rest of your life what would it be? I would probably say my favourite Yeo Valley product is the Natural Kefir Pot. It’s so easy and delicious. I pop it in my smoothies for a quick gut boost. 9. What’s the weirdest fact you know? One of my favourite nutrition facts is that eating cooked and cooled carbs like pasta and rice increases the resistant starch content, a process called retrogradation. This is a great thing as the resistant starch passes to your large colon where it is fermented by your gut microbes who LOVE it, so this is a good way to increase your prebiotic intake and another reason to love your leftovers! All nutritionists, love to talk about poo and did you know that 50—80% of your poo is bacteria that have been living in your intestine.

Meet Dr Alice, the newest addition to the Yeo Valley team and a familiar face in the Yeo family!

Nice to Meet Yeo: Dr Alice

Did you know that… Soil is responsible for around 95% of our food production, yet we know very little about it. One gram of soil is around a quarter of a teaspoon, and this may harbour up to 10 billion micro-organisms – most of which are still unexplored. Soil stores more carbon than the atmosphere and all the world’s plants and forests combined, which means that soil is one of our most important weapons in the fight against climate change. As organic farmers, we’re always trying to find out more about what’s beneath our feet. Regenerative organic farming is based on nourishing the soil, creating a healthy, living ecosystem. Decades of industrial farming have taken their toll on our planet and serious questions are being raised about the future of our food production. Back in July 2023, the European Commission proposed the continent’s first soil law, intended to undo some of the damage done by intensive farming and mitigate global heating. Research indicates that this could help absorb carbon from the atmosphere and ensure sustainable food production. This year's World Soil Day theme is ''Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage'' which aims to understand the importance of collecting accurate soil data to understand our soils better and support decision making. 20 of our farmers are part of a pilot project that started back in 2021/22 and will continue until 2026/27 to understand soil better through collecting data. This will help us understand the impact and possibilities soil has in our climate crisis. The project collected 11,000 bags of soil across over 1,100 fields and found over 18,000 worms in its first year! So what can we look for and smell in good, healthy soil? ''Healthy soil is important as it underpins everything that we do from growing the crops and forage that are needed to feed the cows to recycling all the nutrients needed on an organic farm. The soil structure should be the texture of a chocolate sponge with a fresh earthy, sweet scent that tells us that there is life down there'' - Tom White, Regen Farming Manager. Find out more about our project on our regenerative farming website. What's more you can learn about our regenerative grazing, agroforestry, diverse cropping and composting projects there too! So don’t dismiss soil, it has more potential than we yet know…

Explanation of why soil is so important to the planet and highlights Yeo's commitment to learning more about soil.

Soil It's A Wonderful Thing

The garden gate closed for the last time at the end of October, so now the work can really begin! Whilst we are always sad to say goodbye to our visitors it gives us an opportunity to ‘take our makeup off’ and get on with the backstage jobs. For the garden team, the period between closing and reopening in April is the busiest time of year. Bulbs, bulbs, bulbs! It’s a source of great amusement amongst the garden team that from August until November there is a constant stream of bulbs being delivered to Yeo Valley Organic Garden. I try to write notes all year round so that when it comes to ordering bulbs in the Summer (I try to order my bulbs by June to have first 1st dibs of the varieties) I can remember my successes, failures, and thoughts from the previous season. One of the first jobs on closing is getting these bulbs safely into the ground. As we’re talking about somewhere in the region of 30,000 bulbs, this is no mean feat! But our efforts are always rewarded – we know that planting bulbs is an investment in next year’s show and something to look forward to. Our tulips are an exception and are still in their boxes. We’ve got heavy clay soil so we’ve found that it’s better to wait, even until the end of December, rather than have them sitting in the cold damp soil which they detest. In the compost yard… Our compost yard is the life and soul of the garden and Autumn delivers lots of leafy potential. We’re very fortunate that we have access to fallen leaves throughout our five sites and it’s a huge focus for us every autumn. Rather than gathering them, we use a leaf blower and direct our fallen leaves under the hedges and onto the beds where they act as an automatic mulch. However, where they fall on paths, hard surfaces or lawns we gather them up and store in one of our compost bays. The leaves then break down into leaf mould which we use in compost mixes and as a soil conditioner. This is a win win, something for nothing, thank you mother nature. Snuggle down! This is also the time of year when we look to protect our more vulnerable plants. Those that are not reliably hardy at low temperature – especially given our clay soils. Plants that get tucked up for the winter include our gunnera and our tree ferns. Our lemon trees, cannas and brugmansia all get brought into the glass house and the glass house itself gets a lining of bubble wrap to insulate against a hard winter. Feed the birds… At Yeo Valley Organic Garden we don’t cut back our borders until February/March the following year. All those seed heads from plants such like panicum, teasels, sunflowers and amaranth become wonderful delicious natural bird feeders when left over the winter. We do put out our own bird feeders too, particularly concentrating on areas that tend to be higher in pests. The veggie patch and cut flower garden are prime examples. Cover up! Where we have bare areas of soil we like to protect them with a green manure. At Yeo Valley Organic Garden we particularly like phacelia as it can be sown at any time of year, makes dense cover, fixes nitrogen into the soil and also, if allowed to flower, sends up an electric blue flowerhead that is a beautiful bee magnet. We also mulch using our own home-made composts and leaf molds through all our borders, once we have given them a last weed to improve soil structure and add nutrients where necessary. We don’t dig our composts in as we prefer not to disturb the soil structure, we like to allow the worms to do our work for us. Housekeeping… Winter is a great time to take stock and have a good old sort out. Pots should be thoroughly cleaned, tools particularly spades and edgers, sharpened and oiled, mowers serviced and everything cleaned and oiled. Labels are cleaned if plastic or repainted in black if wooden, ready for new signage next year. The glasshouse gets its pre-Christmas clean, making sure all dead plant material is removed and it’s had a good sweep. By the time the team break for a well-deserved Christmas holiday, we aim to have the garden ship shape and Bristol fashion, ready to start the new year with a spring in its step. Did you know we are holding our first ever Yeo Valley Garden Festival in September 2025? A celebration of gardening sustainability, bringing 3 days of celebration packed with expert speakers, workshops, discussions and of course great food to the heart of the North Somerset Countryside. We hope this vibrant gathering will inspire all whether novice or enthusiasts, to explore nature-friendly practices. We can barely contain our excitement - can you?

The Organic Garden - Behind Closed Doors

Get into our pub!   Following new research that shows 82% of Brits returning - or 'moo-meranging' - to dairy milk after trying alternatives since the start of the year, we felt it was high time to celebrate where it all began - our organic milk. So, we had Larry Lamb, star of Gavin & Stacey, pay homage to his Eastenders ‘landlord’ role, as he opened up doors to punters to serve delicious creamy pints of organic milk on tap – celebrating the flavour, quality and craftsmanship of our organic milk.   But that’s not all! Our research also showed that over two thirds of Brits enjoy the taste of milk, with their favourite way to consume as a refreshing ice-cold pint (34%). So our guests were also invited to take part in complimentary tasting flights, featuring variations of whole, semi-skimmed, and skimmed milks alongside ‘Gastronomilk’ tasting notes. Plus, our team carefully curated a milk-themed limited-edition menu to showcase the best dairy has to offer.   Herding the experts   Our very own supplier farmer, Sophie Gregory, waved the flag for organic milk, chatting with journalists and influencer, Tasha Stones, all about its creamy benefits. As well as speaking with Clem Elphick, Head of Brand at Bristol Beer Factory, through the interesting intricacies of – and similarities between – the craft of organic milk and milk stout.  Clem also made the moo-st of his top-notch beer knowledge to talk through different tasting notes of the milks, alongside Sophie. And not forgetting we kicked things off with a milk-themed pub quiz, hosted by Yeo Valley Organic aficionado, Dr Phil Hammond. The lucky winning team went home with a generous bar tab to The New Inn. Cheers to that!   You can find out more about organic milk here: Why Organic Milk?

For one week The New Inn pub took on a new look, transformed into The Moo Inn, Yeo Valley Organic's very own Micro-MOO-ery!

Celebrating 30 Years of Yeo Valley Organic in style!

What better way to begin our trip down memory lane than chatting with our founder, Tim Mead, and Farms Development Manager, Will Mayor. From their proudest moments and most tranquil spots in the Valley to exciting new projects, we have really picked their brains to give you a rundown of our best moments as an organic brand over the past thirty years. So, without further ado, take it away, Tim… What moment over the past 30 years are you most proud of? In your opinion, what does the next 5 years of Yeo Valley Organic look like? Where’s your favourite place to get peace in the valley? Over to you, Will… Are there any exciting projects coming up in organic farming? Which have been the most successful families of British Friesian cows? What do you see as a long-term future for Yeo Valley Organic? With 30 years behind us and many more to go, join us in raising a toast this week to celebrate all that we have achieved!

We're looking back over the last 30 years and seeing what exciting projects we have in stall for the future.

It's Our 30th Birthday!

1. The Yeo Valley Organic brand was founded back in 1994 by the Mead family, who can trace their farming ancestry back to the 15th century.  2. We’re named after the River Yeo, which runs through the valley where it all started on the Mead family farm.  3. We’re the largest organic brand in the UK consumed by over ten million households a year. But don’t worry it doesn’t go to our head. We’re as passionate today as when we started.  4. Do you remember the rapping farmers of 2011? We do, and frequently hear it being hummed around the office. It was even hummed on Clarkson’s Farm – Series 2, episode 1 – go back and give it a watch.  5. We’ve also got our very own disco, DJ themed ice cream van! We love everything moo-sical.  6. In 1972, Roger and Mary Mead tried their hand at making yogurt with leftover milk from the clotted cream they produced for their tearoom.  7. Did you know that our first flavoured yogurt was strawberry? (Obviously after launching our thick and creamy organic natural yogurt). 8. Our herdsmen and -women on our farm in Somerset all know our cows by name. Some of our favourites are NomNom and Barbara (but sshhh don’t let the others hear us say that!)  9. We’re passionate about soil down here at Yeo and did you know that soil stores three times more carbon than the atmosphere and all the world’s plants and forests combined. Wow!  10. Delicious is at the Heart of Everything we do

Our organic dairy products taste great and are packed with vitamins and minerals that are beneficial in helping our bodies to function well, as part of a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle.  We wanted to share the health benefits of milk, yogurt, cheese and the rest of our delicious products, and let you in on the facts about the wonderful world of organic dairy.  What's so great about Organic Milk?  Organic milk is a great source of essential nutrients such as calcium, protein, omega-3, vitamin B12, vitamin B2, phosphorous, iodine and potassium.  All these nutrients, naturally present in organic free-range milk. Which makes milk a worthwhile part of our diet as they contribute to the normal function of the body in everyday life.  Natural source of calcium  Organic milk is naturally rich in calcium which is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.  What’s more, there’s little difference in the calcium levels of full-fat, semi-skimmed and skimmed milk – so drink up for calcium, no matter the type of milk you like to drink.  Dairy is a source of protein   There are many ways to include protein as part of a healthy diet, like including meat, eggs, beans and pulses in your meals.  Dairy products are naturally rich in unique protein (the 2 types in dairy are casein, a slow-digesting protein and whey, a more quickly digested protein).  The Good Stuff  Organic milk is a great source of many other essential nutrients. Vitamin B12 keeps your blood and nerve cells healthy. Vitamin B2 and Phosphorous are important for the growth, development, and function of the cells in your body. They both also help turn the food you eat into the energy you need.  Potassium helps maintain normal levels of fluid inside our cells. Sodium, its counterpart, maintains normal fluid levels outside of cells. Potassium also helps muscles to contract and supports normal blood pressure.  If you'd like to find out more check out our blog Why Organic Milk? The responsibility and importance of individual actions for the environment can feel both empowering and stifling, to the point where we can feel overwhelmed by noise, choice and indecision – what can we do to help? The good news is that there is much we can do for nature at home – whether we live in the countryside, city, or suburbs – nature can thrive alongside us. When it comes to making space for plants and animals on our doorstep, from bees to birds to bats - less is ultimately more. I’m no gardener or naturalist, but as a science communicator and new homeowner I often question whether there’s anything I could change about how I manage my little home and garden to make it more welcoming to wildlife. So, through trial (and much error), here are some of my favourite ways to support and encourage nature to return to and linger on your doorstep, wherever you live. Rough and ready gardens for Natural Nesting Material You may have land, or you may have no garden at all - but offering natural nesting material requires little effort but reaps awesome wildlife rewards. Think empty snail shells, seed heads, leafy shrubs and brambles. Naturally, this is particularly useful in the run-up to spring, but species need nature to be available all-year round. So - resist the urge to domesticate the outdoors by keeping it neat and tidy, wildlife prefers it rough and ready! Cosy Holes Amazingly, the bees responsible for securing at least 30% of the food on our table’s sport among the lowest profile of any insect, overshadowed by their bigger, fluffier, more famous bumblebee cousins. Solitary bees are the underdog of the pollinator world,225 of the UK’s 270 species of bee are ‘solitary’, serving neither Queen nor colony, and not producing honey; their efforts instead focussed on an almighty pollination power. 70%of solitary bees are underground miners, burrowing into patches of bare earth and lawn. Within these tunnels female bees lay an egg on top of a ‘pollen package’, before sealing the entrance with leaves or mud. You can support different species of solitary bees, by offering cavities for them to discover and nest in. To encourage as many species as possible, vary the length and diameter of holes. Drill holes into log piles, fence posts, or even poke holes into patches of bare earth. Stay Hydrated Everything needs water, especially in summer. Don’t overthink it - bees, birds and bats will be equally happy with a sip and a splash from a pond, a bird bath, or even just a shallow dish of clean freshwater. Most national water companies offer free water-saving items, like water butts, for households on a water metre. These are ideal for storing over 100 litres of rainwater and supporting garden nature during the summer when they need it most. Method in the Mow I have a tiny front garden lawn as my test tube, allowing me to experiment. I used to think that a total ‘no-mow’ was a big ‘yes’ for nature. But there’s more to it... According to Plantlife, a total no-mow throughout the year can be counter-productive and reduce the plant diversity of your lawn - especially if your soil is nutrient-rich. But fear not the simple fix is all about length. Garden nature thrives on long and short grasses growing together. Consider leaving a patch to grow tall until the autumn. On hot days in midsummer, I see starlings or sparrows taking refuge in their shade. At the same time, mow strips around this patch on a higher setting every few weeks throughout the summer to allow the shorter, nectar-rich plants to flourish. A simple bit of plant planning can make all the difference too, giving your local patch more resilience and variety. Come summer evenings, I sometimes see bats swooping in to dine on the increased insect life that has arrived since managing my tiny lawn in this way. And yes, I Iive in a city! Flower Power England and Wales lost 97% of lowland wildflower meadows between 1930s – 1980s. UK grasslands store up to two billion tonnes of carbon to a depth of one metre, yet they and other grasslands around world are still declining. But if given the space, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust estimates an area of wildflower meadow can support up to 40 plant species per square meter! You can help achieve this at home. If a windowsill, balcony, or sunny courtyard is your available space, that’s more than enough real estate for some our most important species: Dandelions. For humans, a weed, for pollinators, an icon. Their sunny, shallow landing pad and high nectar content makes it an essential fuel-station for many different insects. Allium not only look stunning but are dripping with nectar in summer. An essential flower for any pot or border! Dahlias are a brilliant autumnal nectar source. Being mindful of seasonal flora is really important to support pollinators into winter. Chives, (and all herbs) are great if you let them flower (and a treat for the gardener!) Encouraging plants and animals to find a home around your own can be among the most powerful ways of forging and sustaining a lasting relationship with the natural world, your local community and neighbourhood. Make it personal, relish the fun and spontaneity of it, and don’t take it too seriously. Focus on quality over quantity, little and often to let nature do the work it so desperately needs to continue.

Sophie Pavelle discusses tips and tricks on how biodiversity can thrive in your home and that we should dare to dream for a better future that allows biodiversity to thrive.
