Creamy Green Orzo
- Autumn
- Little Ones

This vibrant green orzo is a brilliant way to introduce little ones to a variety of vegetables and herbs in a familiar, family-friendly meal. Creamy orzo is combined with a nutritious blend of spinach, peas, basil, parmesan and crème fraîche to create a smooth, flavour-packed sauce that's perfect for weaning. Easy to adapt for different stages, it can be served as a softer meal for younger babies or with added texture for older children, making it a versatile dish the whole family can enjoy together.
Ingredients
200g Orzo
1 small onion
1.5L low salt veggie stock
Large handful of spinach
Handful of fresh basil
2 tbsp Yeo Valley Organic crème fraiche
20g parmesan
60g peas – cooked
Serving suggestion: ground pumpkin seeds and quartered cherry tomatoes.
Method
Heat a large pan over a medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, until softened. Add the orzo, then pour in the vegetable stock. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for approximately 10 minutes, stirring regularly, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
Meanwhile, place the spinach, basil, peas, parmesan and crème fraîche in a blender and blend until smooth and vibrant green.
Once the orzo is cooked, stir through the green sauce until evenly combined and heated through.
Serve topped with ground seeds and chopped cherry tomatoes.
Weaning Tip: Orzo is a great pasta for little babies, but you can stir the sauce through any cooked pasta. As your baby progresses through the weaning journey you can try reserving the peas from the sauce and cook with the pasta for added texture and to help develop those chewing skills.
