Say hello to our new 1 litre carton

Wednesday 10th August 2022

As organic farmers we know first-hand the impact climate change is having on our planet. The food we eat, and how that food is produced, sourced, packaged and disposed of has major consequences.

We always strive to put nature first, which is why we’ve switched our 1L fresh milk from plastic bottles to fully plant-based cartons.

Milk Cartons

We’re reducing the amount of plastic we use in our products; the new carton uses 70% less plastic vs our previous 1L bottle – that’s 16g less plastic for every pack sold. Which means it will all add up quickly in the right direction.

By making the switch, we’re using renewable based materials. Which means our new 1L cartons are made only of materials that can naturally renew themselves, in doing so we cut the carbon footprint of our packaging by more than half. Unlike many other cartons, there is no aluminium foil layer inside, just Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) unbleached card and a lid and coating made of plant-based plastic.

The cartons flatten neatly for recycling at recycling banks or some home collections, you can check recycling in your area by visiting Tetra Pak.

For over 25 years we’ve tried to make good choices. Our commitment to bring you delicious, fresh organic milk that supports healthy and sustainable diets is stronger than ever. We’re here to help you make every day sustainable choices one glass, spoon or bowl at a time.

We’re always looking for new ways to improve the environmental footprint of our packaging! We made the decision to move away from glass to plastic bottles as plastic bottles ensure a longer shelf life and need less protection while transporting, which means we can fit more into one load and our vans can make less trips (less carbon emissions). Overall, plastic milk bottles containing recycled HDPE have lower total carbon emissions than the equivalent volume glass bottles over their life cycle.

YEOKENS

Our new milk cartons are currently unable to have Yeokens, however, we are working with our packaging suppliers to provide a long-term solution to this, that will not only allow us to have Yeokens, but the bottle will remain 100% fully recyclable. We aim to achieve this in 2023.

  • Don’t worry y’all! The current packaging manufacturer cannot include yeoken labelling/printing as it’s something that goes beyond that productive process. Please, appreciate the focus of what’s a step ahead on plastic reduction and once thought through they’ll find a way to include yeokens on a – normally easy-tamper – carton!

  • I chose the new carton for eco reasons – very happy with it and the milk tastes just fine no difference to the old cartons. Disappointed with no yeokens – could you perhaps add a QR code to the outside for just this product and perhaps the customer also download the receipt from the store we brought the milk from to add our yeokens?? Or a QR code and then we have to add the barcode from the milk product to gain the yeokens??

  • As someone who buys milk as I need it, the new cartons are a headache – no way to see at a glance how much milk is in the fridge when putting together a shopping list. I’m afraid it’s back to other suppliers with see-through packaging for me.

  • Fantastic product! Will be buying exclusively from now on.
P.S. super tasting milk with no hint of that ‘plasticy’ taste you get sometimes from other containers.

  • Like others, I applaud the attempt to reduce waste on packaging, but brand loyalty has, in part, been created through yeokens… which are nowhere to be seen here!

  • Yay for less plastic, but feeling a little cheated about my Yeokens!

  • So glad you’ve made the switch to the new cartons. Hoping that the yeokens issue can get sorted asap

  • I am sorry but the carton material is tainting the milk. I can taste it and smell it it is not pleasant. No Yeokens either. It is wasteful as I have had to throw it away. What’s the point if food is being thrown away. Will not be buying this again. I do love all your products but I think the carton material is a bit weird.

  • Well done 👏 Love the new packaging from an environmental point of view. Brilliant 🤩 Look forward to being able to collect yeokens in the future and glad you are not compromising a good carbon footprint for the sake of them 😃

  • My fridge is full of milk. 🙁😱
    Two leaking cartons
    No milk in the house
    Expensive waste
Not to mention no yeokens and there’s none on the cream we ate all summer with our strawberries,
