The Yeo Valley Organic Garden team are on the road to the Royal Bath and West County Show

Tuesday 30th May 2023

The Yeo Valley Organic Garden team will be appearing at this year’s Royal Bath and West County Show for the first time on 1st – 3rd June, taking a small snapshot of the North Somerset garden to the event by getting involved in the Pop-Up Garden Competition, which can be found in the Horticultural Village area.

The Bath & West County Festival is one of England’s Biggest Celebrations of Rural Life and the Yeo Valley Organic pop-up garden will be one of four gardens featured in this year’s competition. Green-fingered visitors attending the event can also vote for the pop-up garden through the People’s Choice Award using a QR code found at the garden stand or alternatively, you can vote for Yeo Valley Organic by clicking here.

The garden is curated by Head Gardener, Sarah Mead and a member of the gardening team, Nathan Apperley. It will feature a mini version of the silver birch glade and a meadow area, highlighting the benefits of No Mow May to garden and gardener, water saving tank, alongside a composting area and of course include the Yeo Valley Organic heart on the lawn.

Sarah Mead, Head Gardener said, “This year’s design theme is ‘Responsible / Sustainable / Creative – steering gardening to a greener future’ which really encompasses what we try to achieve every day at the Yeo Valley Organic Garden. It seemed like a natural fit to attend this year’s event.”

Sarah continues, “I’ve also attended the Royal Bath & West County Show since being a child, celebrating farmers’ contribution to the South West, so I will get to see the show from a whole new angle. As a nation of gardeners, we will be demonstrating the easy-win ways that we can all make a difference to the planet, through gardening with a hands-off approach that saves time and money.”

Nathan Apperley said, “The hard part has been downsizing a 6 and half acre ornamental garden, into a smaller spot! However, Sarah and I were ready for the challenge and decided to focus on the universally loved Birch Grove area, as it offers a calming space to visitors before the wonderful chaos of nature gets involved.”

All planting will mirror the Birch Grove found at the real Yeo Valley Organic Garden in Blagdon, North Somerset. The Yeo Valley Organic Garden team will be available on the stand to discuss all things Yeo. The team will also be handing out a number of free entries to the Yeo Valley Organic Garden in Somerset, so people can visit the garden that inspired it all.
