Meet our placement student Mayya

Wednesday 5th July 2023

There are lots of people here at Yeo Valley Organic working hard to bring you delicious products, the best recipes, and some spectacular Yeokens prizes.

One member of the team who will sadly be leaving us this month is our Digital Marketing Assistant, Mayya, who is about to finish her 12-month student placement. Mayya joined the team in September 2022 as part of a year’s experience amongst her Business Management degree at the University of Bath. Before she flies the nest, we sat down and caught up about her time here in the valley – including a little bit about her role and her experiences working within our brand team this past year. Here’s what she had to say…

What is your role?

Meet Maya
Say hello, Mayya!

“Being a Digital Marketing Assistant, I’ve had the pleasure of taking on a wide range of responsibilities. During the first few months, my main focus was collaborating to create our weekly newsletters. After some time, I started replying to customers in the world of social media. So, if you’ve chatted to Yeo on socials, it’s likely me you’ve said hello to!

After about six-months, I began working on an exciting project that aims to improve our loyalty program which was something I found really interesting and fun. During my time at Yeo, I have had the opportunity to learn about various programming and reward systems, which I feel will benefit me in my future career. I have also been responsible for adding new Yeoken offers to our website which has probably been my favourite part of the job!

One consistent task was managing the partnerships for our Dairy-Go-Round and Raffle competitions. It’s been great talking to lots of different competition partners, thinking about all the goodies people would like to win. I’m really excited about some others coming soon like the Raffle with All Hallows’ Farmhouse Cookery School.”

What is your favourite memory from your time at yeo?

“I couldn’t choose one, it has to be either the cow crossing or being pampered with a yogurt facemask when shooting content for our social media and digital channels.

We couldn’t let it go to waste after all!

Being from Bulgaria, where yogurt is practically a national treasure, I was a yogurt fan long before I joined Yeo Valley! We wanted to explore the hidden powers of yogurt and created an amazing yogurt facemask. I must say, my skin never felt smoother—or tastier!

I was a lollipop lady for the Cow Crossing, and with this job title comes great responsibility. I had some much fun guiding those moo-ving creatures. If you’re curious to see me in action, hop on to the blog post about our Cow Crossing.”

What is your favourite thing about working at Yeo and what has surprised you the most?

“My favourite thing about working at Yeo has to be the people. Everyone is so kind, friendly, and have supported me since day one. I’ve been made to feel very involved and comfortable throughout the whole year. Also, I can’t go without mentioning the food – it is absolutely delicious! I will really miss the lunches at HQ; if you’ve never experienced Yeo’s cooking before, they’ve got some exciting supper clubs coming up this summer and there’s always the Organic Gardens and tearoom for an afternoon slice of cake!

What surprised me the most was the quirkiness of this place. The owner’s wife and Head Gardener – Sarah Mead, is very passionate about interior design and you can clearly see that here at HQ, down in the garden and every other place she has touched!”

What made you apply to Yeo and are you glad this is where you have done your placement?

Yeo Valley Organic Yogurt Range

“I wanted to find a placement that I’m genuinely passionate about. I truly believe in what Yeo Valley stands for. Health has always been very important to me. Growing up, I didn’t have the best relationship with food, and I know there are a lot of people out there that have experienced something similar. I wanted to be in a position where I would be able to influence people to make better choices by choosing Yeo Valley Organic.

I’m very glad I choose Yeo. I love the walks in nature and the peace of mind it gives me. Everyone at work is so nice and understanding, my mental health has never been better!”

What is the one thing you’ve learnt this year that you feel will be the most valuable going forward in your career?

“I’ve learnt a lot about organic and how Yeo Valley works with nature. This might not help me directly with my career, but it has definitely changed the way I see life. I have already made a few sustainable switches and I’m planning to do more in the future.

In terms of career, what I learnt at Yeo is how important it is to pay attention to the details. This is what makes the difference between a good job and an outstanding one.”

And finally, what is your favourite Yeo Product and Yeo recipe?

Mayya’s favourite Yeo recipe – Our Spiced Lentil and Vegetable Strudel

“My favourite product has to be our Rhubarb yogurt, it’s delicious! In regard to recipes my favourite has to be the Christmas vegetable-strudel, I’ve made it numerous times and everybody who’s tried it has loved it!”

Everyone here at Yeo will be sad to see Mayya leave, but we wish her the best of luck with her final year at university and all of her future endeavours – Yeo got this Mayya!
