Yeo Valley Organic Greek Style Yogurt

Yogurt Storage Tips

Wednesday 27th April 2022

Over the years we’ve been making changes to our packaging to reflect the sustainability values we have as a business.

From our Super Thick pots being made from 100% recycled plastic, to offering a recycling service via Enval for recycling our Little Yeos pouches, recycling is always front of mind. We’ve also switched our cream packaging to bottles so that they’re 100% recyclable, and we’re not stopping there!

We’re saying bye bye to plastic lids across our 350g and 450g tubs. Making this small change will remove a huge 145 tonnes of plastic a year – that’s the equivalent of 188 Friesian cows, 24 African elephants or 17 tractors … You can now pick up our Greek Style yogurt range and in fact, all our 350g and 450g yogurt flavours in-store without their plastic clip lids on, helping reduce our plastic footprint even further.

That being said, we don’t want to worry you with woes on yogurt freshness. Which is why we’ve popped together our tops tips on how to get the most from your pot.

You may be wondering whether this change will affect the freshness of our delicious yogurt, which is why we’ve put together this handy guide. Read on to find out our top storage tips!

Beeswax Wraps

Beeswax Wraps are a great way to keep your food covered and fresh!

Skip the clingfilm and instead use a reusable alternative to cover your yogurt pots. Beeswax wraps are an eco-friendly storage solution that can be moulded to fit different container sizes, perfect for yogurt pots!

Re-use Old Lids

We encouraged all our customers to save the clip lid before it was ditched, make sure to keep yours save for endless re-use.

Tupperware Container

A simple storage solution would be to decant the yogurt into a spare Tupperware container. Make sure the lid has a tight seal and it’ll be good to go! If you find yourself with just a small amount of yogurt left, try our ‘Dollop of Yogurt’ recipes to make sure you’re using up every last tasty drop!

In the fridge

As well as covering your yogurt pot, there are other things you can do in your fridge to keep your yogurt fresher for longer. Store yogurt at the back of the fridge where it’s colder, and make sure your fridge is set to 4°C or below.

  • I mostly buy the small one serving pots, but have just bought a large yogurt pot. I do just keep it in the fridge with the plastic lid resting closed, but the opportunity again to get/buy plastic lids would be great. Completely missed this whole thing, so might have to resort to clingfilm. I would have kept lids if I’d known.

  • Your Kefir pot states “visit yeovalley.co.uk to get your reusable lid. I see tips as to what to use to cover the pot, but nowhere can I find any information aboput obtaining a reusable lid, as the pot suggests!

  • I remember when yogurt pots came without the clip lid at all – they were sealed with aluminium foil rather than plastic, which was easy to mould round the pot again and also is infinitely recyclable.
I have also rediscovered the old trick of a china plate or saucer on top of bowls and pots in the fridge – a great use for saucers that we rarely use otherwise, easy to get from charity shops.

  • Have been buying big tubs of Natural yoghurt for years and recycling everything. Spent a while saving lids when you began to phase them out. By the time we looked for one of your reusable lids they were out of stock. Any chance you could bring them back for a while and give those that missed out a chance to obtain one?
Your organic yoghurs are the best.

  • I would welcome a reusable lid which could either be purchased or collect tokens to get one from yeo valley. I did not see a message on the lid of our yogurts so have been throwing them away rather than saving them
