Yeo Valley Organic Greek Style Yogurt

Yogurt Storage Tips

Wednesday 27th April 2022

Over the years we’ve been making changes to our packaging to reflect the sustainability values we have as a business.

From our Super Thick pots being made from 100% recycled plastic, to offering a recycling service via Enval for recycling our Little Yeos pouches, recycling is always front of mind. We’ve also switched our cream packaging to bottles so that they’re 100% recyclable, and we’re not stopping there!

We’re saying bye bye to plastic lids across our 350g and 450g tubs. Making this small change will remove a huge 145 tonnes of plastic a year – that’s the equivalent of 188 Friesian cows, 24 African elephants or 17 tractors … You can now pick up our Greek Style yogurt range and in fact, all our 350g and 450g yogurt flavours in-store without their plastic clip lids on, helping reduce our plastic footprint even further.

That being said, we don’t want to worry you with woes on yogurt freshness. Which is why we’ve popped together our tops tips on how to get the most from your pot.

You may be wondering whether this change will affect the freshness of our delicious yogurt, which is why we’ve put together this handy guide. Read on to find out our top storage tips!

Beeswax Wraps

Beeswax Wraps are a great way to keep your food covered and fresh!

Skip the clingfilm and instead use a reusable alternative to cover your yogurt pots. Beeswax wraps are an eco-friendly storage solution that can be moulded to fit different container sizes, perfect for yogurt pots!

Re-use Old Lids

We encouraged all our customers to save the clip lid before it was ditched, make sure to keep yours save for endless re-use.

Tupperware Container

A simple storage solution would be to decant the yogurt into a spare Tupperware container. Make sure the lid has a tight seal and it’ll be good to go! If you find yourself with just a small amount of yogurt left, try our ‘Dollop of Yogurt’ recipes to make sure you’re using up every last tasty drop!

In the fridge

As well as covering your yogurt pot, there are other things you can do in your fridge to keep your yogurt fresher for longer. Store yogurt at the back of the fridge where it’s colder, and make sure your fridge is set to 4°C or below.

  • I have been washing and saving lids for some time and take a few with me when shopping to prevent leakages during transit. Re-useable silicone lids (with your logo!) paid for with Yeokens would double for all other similar tubs – with free advertising for Yeo…

  • Sounds like the decision has already been made to phase then out so why all for comments.
However it’s a ridiculous idea when so many people have shopping delivered and damages are more than likely to occur as stores do not take as much care as people do themselves when packing goods. You only have to watch them in store.

  • I use glass jam jars to decant my larger pots of yoghurt into and only use one at a time to keep them fresh for longer

  • I agree with the many suggestions given above, that you produce a recyclable lid.
I get your yoghurt delivered by Milk and More and they sell recycable lids for their organic milk.

  • I agree with a lot of the above comments. However I’m not able to go to the stores and I have had on many occasions my grocery delivered covered in yoghurt because the lids have been broken off. If you transfer yoghurt to Tupperware etc , you lose a lot. I don’t use beeswax so that would cost more. I’m sorry but I think I’m going elsewhere I’ve been a customer for years and like the product. I’m elderly and a carer so I can’t afford to waste money even if it helps the planet

  • Phasing out the lids is in principal, a good idea. However in reality it is terrible. You seem already to have phased out the lids on cream and as a result I had to stop buying your brand until you switched to bottles, as it constantly leaked all over my other shopping from Ocado. It also did not stay as fresh for as long and there was too much wastage and mess. If you start phasing out the lids on the yoghurt then I will have the same problem.

Please can you either change your packaging (as per the cream) so that the lid is not required OR separately sell a permanent lid that can be reused. I’d happily pay for such a thing.

  • Alone, the top seems to leak with our shopping delivery, a problem we didn’t have with the lids.
It’s more convenient with the lid for storage since using cling film means a new piece every time we use it.

  • Well done for making this change. It’s really not that inconvenient to place a saucer on top of the pot!

  • We order Yeo joghurt through Abel and Cole and received no notice of stopping provision of lids, otherwise I might have saved a few lids from other similar size joghurt providers. Whilst congratulating Yeo Valley on reducing plastic, I think more warning and a more eco friendly alternative might have been welcome. So far I have had no success with a suitable covering for the joghurt, which in our household takes several days to finish the pot.

  • Reading all your previous comments I would also like a reusable lid that could be purchased with yokens. I do keep the plastic lids but don’t last that long. Using the foil lid is ok but not perfect as if it falls over…..
Just love your yogurts in all flavours and plain. Thank you
