Yeo Valley Organic Greek Style Yogurt

Yogurt Storage Tips

Wednesday 27th April 2022

Over the years we’ve been making changes to our packaging to reflect the sustainability values we have as a business.

From our Super Thick pots being made from 100% recycled plastic, to offering a recycling service via Enval for recycling our Little Yeos pouches, recycling is always front of mind. We’ve also switched our cream packaging to bottles so that they’re 100% recyclable, and we’re not stopping there!

We’re saying bye bye to plastic lids across our 350g and 450g tubs. Making this small change will remove a huge 145 tonnes of plastic a year – that’s the equivalent of 188 Friesian cows, 24 African elephants or 17 tractors … You can now pick up our Greek Style yogurt range and in fact, all our 350g and 450g yogurt flavours in-store without their plastic clip lids on, helping reduce our plastic footprint even further.

That being said, we don’t want to worry you with woes on yogurt freshness. Which is why we’ve popped together our tops tips on how to get the most from your pot.

You may be wondering whether this change will affect the freshness of our delicious yogurt, which is why we’ve put together this handy guide. Read on to find out our top storage tips!

Beeswax Wraps

Beeswax Wraps are a great way to keep your food covered and fresh!

Skip the clingfilm and instead use a reusable alternative to cover your yogurt pots. Beeswax wraps are an eco-friendly storage solution that can be moulded to fit different container sizes, perfect for yogurt pots!

Re-use Old Lids

We encouraged all our customers to save the clip lid before it was ditched, make sure to keep yours save for endless re-use.

Tupperware Container

A simple storage solution would be to decant the yogurt into a spare Tupperware container. Make sure the lid has a tight seal and it’ll be good to go! If you find yourself with just a small amount of yogurt left, try our ‘Dollop of Yogurt’ recipes to make sure you’re using up every last tasty drop!

In the fridge

As well as covering your yogurt pot, there are other things you can do in your fridge to keep your yogurt fresher for longer. Store yogurt at the back of the fridge where it’s colder, and make sure your fridge is set to 4°C or below.

  • I understand the reason for saving use of plastic. I too like a lid on the yogurt to keep it fresh and would be happy to use yeokens to purchase lids which last. I have managed to save two lids but they will not last forever.
Another reason for a lid is when my husband fills the fridge because family are coming there is no room for movement and a couple of times the yogurt has fallen out. Because it had a lid it was saved from spilling all over the floor.
So please make a lid we can keep. Thank you

  • Oooo ! A reusable silicone lid, now there’s a light bulb moment. Fabulous if consumers could exchange Yeokens.

  • I’d definitely swap yeokens for a silicon lid for your Greek style yogurts, which are delicious!

  • Sorry, apart from the lady with delivery spillage, I don’t know why this is such a big deal. I use several perishable products that come with just a foil lid and it’s not a problem, the foil is usually adequate cover. If not I use my own foil / greaseproof paper / whatever with a rubber band.
If I do need something more I use silicone covers.
Use your native wit, people, anything that reduces plastic use is a great step forward.

  • I get my milk from the milkman and they sell moo pops to go on open bottles of milk. They come in different colours and are washable. I would buy the equivalent lids that fit the large yoghurt pots. At the moment I save the plastic lids that come with the yoghurts and wash them. However, they are fairly fragile and break easily.

  • I’m afraid this just doesn’t work for us without a reusable lid option. For now we are buying the larger pots which still have lids but if this policy extends to all flavours we will sadly need to switch brands.

  • Great idea to buy longer lasting lids with tokens

  • A reuseable silicone lid would be fab for the yogurt – it takes me 4 days to finish a tub, it needs a good seal. Also, the compote only has a thin lid – it tends to go off before I finish it – a reuseable lid would be great for that too! Would happily spend yokens on them. We have silicone milk bottle tops and they work so well – it would be great to have ones for yogurt and compote, both of which are always on my shopping list.

  • Will wait to hear you’re able to provide us with a reusable lid of some sort ASAP

Lyn HALE on 24th May 2022 at 11:04 am

  • I again have delivery of yogurt and often leaking when I receive it, especially if no lid or the lid has come off.
